when successfully signing up this arvo over the phone for the 10K promo, the amex rep was very clear at the start that to continue I must listen to the full T&Cs and I verbally agree that I fully understand them!

the 10k limit per month & 8-10week posting period clauses were re-emphasized!

just out of interest, for those who weren't successful in signing up today over the phone - which promo did you request and which 1300 number did you call?

NSWhere,

Welcome to AFF.

You are of course perfectly entitled to you opinion about the offers, however from my perspective, and using your own words this is a way too 'combative attitude.'

It appears that you along with many others have forgotten the lines of T & C that include that they (Amex in this case) can change or withdraw offers at any time. You don't have to like it but it is legitimate. ;)

Cheers for the welcome, perhaps it wasn't wise making my fist post part of such a controversial thread... nevertheless here is post 2.

In fact, having a term in a contract does not mean it is automatically legally enforceable. To have any recourse to that particular term, my money is that their lawyers will demand marketing provide written notice to those who opted in previously as well as no retrospective point deductions. The abuse term is another story altogether and no doubt has counsel on both 'sides' licking their lips :)

Had to laugh when I saw this post over at the Ozbargain website commenting on this promotion - please bear in mind this posted a couple down from where they reproduced the posting of Luisa's message from this forum.

Sounds like a great deal for those who get it. It’s just a shame there is so much verbal diarrhea on the frequentflyer thread

I've phoned the Amex rewards customer service daily over the past 3 days only to be told each time that I cannot be signed up for 'myrewards' at the present time and today I was told to ring back in 48 hours when the 'issue' will be resolved. I phoned 1300 363 276

Should I be phoning another number or maybe try to go on the 10K promo ?

try 1300 307 493 and why not? give the 10k promo a go  sounds like you will net the same catch!

To be fair to Amex. I wouldn't hold it against them if they stop the promotion.

Because this is getting ridiculous. "NO LIMITS" if your spending was normal. We got people who are contemplating putting through matches and bread rolls, drawing up a strategy. It is like a hostile takeover of the program. (Anyone going to get reward points redeem it for cash then buy Amex shares to see how long before you eat the company inside out?).

Think about it? I think the minority has abused the program so now people who want to sign on can't.

Hold your horses? Amex offered a promo where you could earn unlimited points - it's not any cardholders fault that they would alter their spending to maximise the bonus points earn.

I paid $1.00 for 20minutes parking in the City after work today. Is this an abuse of the promo? I think not.

The 20 minutes of parking allowed me enough time to run into the Apple Store in Sydney and buy 2 x iTouch's worth $840 on my Amex.

I could have easily split this transaction in two OR I could have earnt more by purchasing 1 itouch today with 1 x $1 parking, and visit the store again tomorrow to buy the 2nd one, which also means another $1 for parking and a grand total of FOUR transactions.

After I got my first set of 5000 points on my Qantas Amex, I did not receive any more points so far....
Just called Amex, this is what I just got.

  • Points are limited to 40.000
  • Points are limited to 10.000 per month
  • Points will take 8-10 weeks
  • Everyone, who received a letter will receive a new letter with the new T&C
  • Everyone who did NOT receive a letter, will be EXCLUDED from this promotion (don't know, if given points will be deducted). They will check, who they sent the letter to. So it's cancelled for the rest.:(
As I called late in the evening just a normal Amex person was available but none from the "Rewards Team" , but I asked for a brief outline of the T&C, as I won't receive them as a letter, as I did , as probably most of us, never received the original one.

Looks like a bit of a disaster, like the majority being excluded from a good offer that now everybody knows of, knowing to be excluded!
Bit strange as the weblink is still there.

Received an Email from Amex called "Customer Service - Tell us what you think (Reminder)" just before I called them....

Another change I made because of this promotion-we are eating out more. Pizza, Subway, coffee shops, any place that takes Amex. The charges are small but you gotta eat somewhere!

Amex in all likelihood wanted us to use Amex as often as we could & promote their card. Many cardholders would have done what you have done and now (if all this points caps speculation is true) what a huge kafuffle on Amex's end.

i think there is comfort in the mixed messages being received! Amex clearly do not have this sorted out internally so until this time no new measures can be pushed out to card holders registered for these promos!...IMHO!

Main reason for this post is to nudge it closer to the 1k mark but back on topic...

I am also using my card ALOT more, previously where i would have used cash i am now using Amex. But guess what, its amazing how it gets scary when you have a transaction history of how much you spend on food, coffee etc!

Having said that it did coincide with a chat from someone close to me who said why dont you start using it more for little stuff as that would get me closer to what i want i.e. rtw in j

Yep yet the VP of Marketing posted on here saying everyone that was registered would still be eligible regardless of if they received the postcard ! ;)

Think about it.. 10k cap per month is only 10 transactions... that's only one every 3 days!

Well I've (and many others) bucked a couple of trends there.

  • I've collected 15000 in bonus points so far in September.
  • The points have appeared as soon as a set of five eligible transactions have popped up in my daily American Express statement.
  • I haven't received a new letter yet. Not to say I never will. I did receive (and hence signed up for this promotion) one of the postcards sent out with the details of the promotion.
Of course, this could all come to bite me back via:

  • All bonus points I got over 10000 will be reversed out, or held back in arrears.
  • They could stop giving me points, and instead way-lay their time as per their conditions. But as said before, I think the time frame is more a "COA" type clause.
Either way, as long as there's bonus points on the table, I'm staying with the game. 10000 bonus points is much better than spending $10000 to get the same result. :-|

Well I think they should all their time to sort out their internal problems and release a new T&C ...... in January next year!!!!!

Anyway, sad to see that a lot of people could not sign up properly .... The promotion could have thought out better.

Not forgetting, of course, that the offer was clearly shown on their web-site. And any web pages that exist have to be treated as freely available unless they are password protected.

It may not be what they intended, but it is what they did.
