10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

Lets be honest here:
  1. The first couple of pages regarding how to play with the system already puts us in a bad light.
  2. You scan try to screw them over but it doesn't mean they are not going to screw you back.
  3. They made it NO LIMIT but we kind of went NO LIMITS with trying to screw them over.
Be serious 1 reward point is worth about 1c. So you are going to put through 10x 72c transactions at woolworths to get $50. How long is it going to take you? Cost vs Benefit.

Thanks for keeping us "honest"

I am not sure I have been trying to screw anyone over - I have made around 27 transactions ranging in value from a $6.80 phone bill (that's all that was owing) to $200 in Woolworths and a range of transactions from $15 through $60 on average in between.

It's interesting that comments regarding the DSE/Bing Promo last year didnt lead to chants of greed and screwing people over.

I think most people are just putting smaller transactions on like lunches (say $10) rather than 72c. I would be interested to know if anyone has done the multiple small transactions or whether just speculating about this has cause the problems when they may not have been anyway...

Normally my points come through at 8-9am... was starting to think something funny was going on, however they just got posted...

Thanks Amex

My points have just posted from yesterday and I have been given another 5000 bonus points, total 30000 bonus points now.

Looking back I have only achieved an "extra" 7 transactions, that is places I would normally pay cash I used Amex.

An associate has just signed up for the promo by calling in. He was advised that it was capped at 10K/per month - that would be your 40k cap.

I will give it a couple more days to see if more points accrue (given I am on 40K for the month) and call in if nothing happens. I will refer them to the T&C that I have printed and see what the options are that I am presented with.

I wont be threatening legal action or spitting the dummy but I wont give in on the no limit without a small fight.

I still get this...

We're sorry...

This offer has been temporarily suspended due to operational issues. Please try again later.

Given you are already registered why do you keep trying to reregister? Just to prove it works? All that will happen is that you will have multiple sign ups logged and that wont help when trying to justify retention of the program surely?

I am registered, but I have a family member who is not. So I am on the lookout for what will be best for them. They did not get a postcard and so need a web -based offer. Though this may not be forthcoming, but the post a few back suggested that it was back and so hence my interest..

Looks like from the post just before that they will get 10K max per month fora 10 K total.

I assume that this will be the T&C for a new registrant.

For people already registered what the T&C will be revised to ( or not at all) is still unknown...

I just tried to enrol in this offer over the phone and they said that the offer is on hold (ie not available) but it will come back when the terms and conditions have had a reworking.

Hi All, I'm a long time lurker who thought it about time to have my say (FWIW)

Why no threat of action simongr? You are, after all, entitled to the offer that they gave you. They offered you bonus points, you accepted. The contract is binding if you offer consideration in return, and from what I can tell you have. After all, they asked for you to change your spending habits and you have. This has cost you time (and most likely on some occasions a surcharge).

All of you who are fortunate to have signed up for this offer should accept nothing less than full cooperation from AMEX. Oh, and in a preemptive strike regarding my combative attitude: No, I am not a lawyer or in any way associated with one, nor do I work for (or am in any way associated with- except as a customer) any retail financial institution including credit card providers).

American express wanted people to transact more on their card, they have certainly acheived that. There is every chance that they fully intend on fulfilling their offer (and back of the envelope calculations suggest it could be a quite reasonable marketing plow - especially when you consider the TT special on the aussie battlers flying to LHR thanks to them), but if they don't....

They should have kept the company line and mentioned "Operational Issues" with signing up :) There is no doubt that there is a flurry of activity at Amex at the moment analysing this promo, and working out the best way to proceed. I have no doubt the sign up will be back at some stage, but the real question will be whether Amex wants to run the gauntlet of changing T&C's to existing enrolees mid promo...

OK, I'm going to be an optimist. Changing the T&Cs for those already registered would have to be at least a PR nightmare.
Why would it be a nightmare? I would be very happy, and I think most people would be happy, with a gift from Amex of 40,000 MR points for doing absolutely nothing other than to use my Amex credit card where ever possible.

No need to change spending habits as I will still use my Gold Amex where ever possible to accumulate more MR points. I have a feeling that most people will continue to use their Amex credit card even with the altered terms and conditions.

I have the QF Premium AmEx. I just rang AmEx and was told by a CSO that the system was down due to demand and she took my details which will be manually entered in by Friday sometime. I made sure it was the MYREWARD offer and she confirmed the 5k points for 5 transactions, no limit offer. She did ask if I had received the offer in the mail. I hadn't but mentioned that a friend let me know about it. This didn't elicit any "you're not eligible" type remarks, but she did emphasise spending at local merchants.

Lots of mixed responses here but I'll be waiting to see what happens on Friday. CSO recommeded I call to ensure it's been added (ie registration is complete).

It seems like everyone that rings Amex gets a different version of what is happening.

This is very interesting in itself that they have no "script" or staff briefing that is consistent.

The original offer was VERY clear, many reps on the phone made it very clear about NO LIMIT and no minimum spend. Changing the T&C's with notice is possible, but still will create a PR nightmare for AMEX

Yes 40,000 is nice, but with my spend and habbits I want what I was offered via the postcard.

Yep total stuff up and continual stuff up and reps making up whatever story that seems fit at the time.

The REAL question that needs to be answered

Has anyone received a letter yet with revised T&C's ? That is all that really matters, as I am still on the original offer of unlimited points, with no min spend unless I receive a letter advising otherwise.

Two days left this week so who will be the first to get a letter (if any).

There is defianately somethign going on, as I can check my account and check my MR account as well, although it IS going very slow when I check it which has not happned before. To say the website is down due to "operational problems" indicates something is happening

If you are on the database saying you were sent a promo card of some sort, I am 99% sure you will not recieve a letter and the offfer is as stands.

Aside from being a cardholder, I also look after all the merchant details for the company I work for and spoke to our contact at Amex today (we have seen a 30% increase in Amex card use this past 10 days, and yes, we charge a 3.5% service fee, which normally has customers changing to Visa/MC). The phone conversation didnt provide anything out of the box but it was mentioned that a recent promotion is being amended for new registrants, and no word of changes to those that are already enrolled.

Bear in mind this person may not have all the facts at hand, however it does sound promising.

When you look at the big picture, possibly a couple of hundred people have read this thread, there are tens of thousands of Amex card holders in Australia. Whilst some here may stand to benefit several hundred thousand points, in the big scheme of things that is chump change overall to Amex, and they will get more value in new signups from merchants than they will from providing us with points.

NSWhere,

Welcome to AFF.

You are of course perfectly entitled to you opinion about the offers, however from my perspective, and using your own words this is a way too 'combative attitude.'

It appears that you along with many others have forgotten the lines of T & C that include that they (Amex in this case) can change or withdraw offers at any time. You don't have to like it but it is legitimate. ;)

I spoke to Amex a few hours ago on an unrelated matter, and the customer service rep mentioned that the bonus points promo is currently suspended until further notice. By suspended she meant that bonus points would not be issued until further notice. I did get some bonus points this morning, but I don't expect to see any in the next few days until the promo is re-instated, if at all.
