Dominos takes Amex on their website even if the actual store doesn't take Amex if you just walk in. So if you want a pizza for dinner--book online!

Did that last night :D

Of course I amy have to sue AMEX for making me eat out more at bad food restaurants that take the card. Wheres that number for Gordon and Slater again.

Why is it our responsibility as customers to make up for the deficiencies of Amex's IT department?
It was a joke in case you missed it :!:

Or, for that matter their legal department. None of the T&C's I've read have prohibited signing up for multiple offers. The only place I've ever seen that in writing is in the self-important pontifications from people such as your good self
Thanks for the compliment :!: That's the first time anyone has called me self important around here :p

You know... I've been thinking...

How much money do they pay for celebrities to endorse their products? How effective is it? I have no idea if she did or she didn't but i do appreciate seeing someone like Anna Kournikova and the like saying that she uses Amex etc. but it doesn't make me want to pull my Amex out for everyday purchases, hell, truth be told, i probably don't even remember after i have changed the channel. However... when a promotion that comes along like this, it makes me want to use my card, and it is probably a bit cheaper and more likely to strike at the heart which is where it is needed. Lets face it, if we weren't greedy, we wouldn't be here. What is this site all about? Its maximizing ROI for points. QF, SQ, DJ, TG etc. it doesn't matter who, its all about getting smart and working out the best way to get more than what we paid for.

Having said that, i am certainly using my card more for little purchases and therefore putting more money through and therefore making Amex more happier through bigger turnover, more pull with new merchants etc.

And what, do you seriously think that a multi-billion dollar company like Amex doesn't know about greed and the human way? I run a business with a 6 figure turnover i.e. miniscule compared to Amex, and i know about human ways and greed. What, do you think that when you get up in pecking order of Amex you forget that stuff...

Im not picking on anyone in particular but get a grip - these people get paid a bucketload to think like us. You dont think that they have thought of all the angles?

Is it Groundhog Day :?:
No offence intended, but in the last 1000 odd posts this and many other arguments, defences, pronouncements and justifications for why Amex will continue this promotion have been repeated (again and again and again...) ;) If Amex is lurking, this must be giving them no end of entertainment watching this thread go round and round in circles.

Dont worry mate, i will garuntee you will not offend me easily nor will you change my mind... And like i give a stuff anyway, all i know is that by changing my habits slightly - ive ended up with points equal to throwing 40k through with no money... Thats all i care about and will continue to use this thread as amusement at all the useless jumping to conclusion and assuming, lets face it, most people here wont need to go to the gym.

Hi there first post here, "I think if amex pull this one (I just check my account) out which they have as far as I could tell" I won't be brother to register for other promotion anymore as they just give some really good deal for adveristment then pull it out just for ppl to remember AMEX is still around. I begin to think AMEX is a waste of time i.e. will Citibank BP master card charge you 79 for annual free then go sorry you won't get certain of % cash back cause it is making a loss for them?

Nah, we just need to find gyms that take Amex for day passes!

We've been eating a lot of pizza and Subway this week!

Amex havent done this (that is even if we assume they have changed the T&C and introduced caps) - they may have changed a promotion. I did not get my Amex card because of the promotion - I got it because of all the other things - none of which have changed.

To get this thread on a more positive light (and to keep Amex from wanting to change the T&Ds), why don't we start sharing ways to LEGALLY make purchases on Amex that fit the current T&C's and don't cost a lot.

Dominos online pizza
Starbucks
Subway (unless it it is a food court, food courts don't seem to take Amex)
Hungry Jacks Kedron
Lowes (cheap clothes)
Bargain City (cheap everything)

Are there any other fast food places that take Amex? I haven't found a Maccas or KFC yet. My husband and I are more the casual takeway types, we don't like fancy places.

***WOW, I got post 1111! ****

Should people start claiming from ff airlines the points Amex hasn't transferred to the airline as I suspect the agreement between cards and airlines says the card has to transfer points (and money) across quickly to avoid customers' complaining they can't book ff seats. Also, if they ruin the holiday plan, the High Court has indicated the customer's damages are worth at least half the cost of the holiday, and that 'd bring a lot of customers withing Slater & Gordon's guidelines for accepting a class action on a 'no win no fee' basis. (I prefer Maurice Blackburn and Nelson & Natale of LA). So should we start claiming missing points from our airlines?

Why on earth would we be entitled to claim missing points from airlines? For a start the T&C clearly state we need to wait 8-10 weeks for points to post. Secondly what on earth has it to do with the airlines? We have no contract with the airlines in this regard nor have Amex contracted to transfer amounts to the airlines.

Why is there such a rush to assume Amex wont deliver and then such a rush to hand money to lawyers?

Hi andyy888 and vet, I am not an avid poster, but I will say it anyway, welcome to the board.

This is my opinion about your posts.

andyy888 - I don't think Amex started the promo with the intention of pulling it. When and if changes are made I'll base my choice of CC as I have always done. This promo will form part of that, but I'll use my head, not emotion. It is a shame we are not all excited and singing Amex praises because it is a great promo. Hopefully we will all be in chorus soon.

vet - I'm not rushing to do a mass transfer of points because of this. My feeling is, if a change is made, it won't be retrospective (points already earned). I think any points reversed will only be those that could be under the original T&Cs.

I know nothing of a 8-10 week wait. Rather, I was told transfers of amex points to velocity by next Wednesday go into a draw for free vaustralia flights. They took my $80 joining fee, confirmed a $100 phone bill could be paid in instalments to get 5000 pts per 5 transactions, and took 48 hours to get points across to velocity. Then, it seems, they stopped. If they're changing terms and conditions, they (and velocty and vaustralia) should read the case last week of a conviction against a lottery holder for changing terms from those approved by his Casino & Gaming & Lottery licence. I just wonder if their right to change terms is legal under that law, and others.

We have no contract with the airlines in this regard nor have Amex contracted to transfer amounts to the airlines.
A sample contract betwwen acard and airline is in the recent Supreme Court case of Diners v Ansett. Cards and airlines must surely have a contract with each other, and I suspect airlines get money for ff seats from the card company. I have a lottery contract with velocity and vaustralia, as well as terms in the velocity program, and booked flights I have the right to upgrade with points. Why do I assume Amex will change the terms? Because anyone who charges 19.9% isn't a licensed charity.

Of course Amex have contracts with airlines but not in this regard. Amex have not contracted to send these bonus points to Velocity by a certain time. This is ridiculous. You want to complain about Amex not giving you points in time to transfer to another program when there is no requirement for Amex to have given you points yet.

I have joined the points posted but no bonus club.

Points earned to date:25,000
Received a postcard: Yes
Date last bonus posted: 24/09/08
Number of transactions posted without bonus: 8
Worried that any transaction are ineligible: No

Wonder if this means I have been capped for this month?

The T&C's of the promotion state to allow 8-10 weeks for the bonus points to post.

Then one can't transfer them in 2000 lots to enter the lottery by next Wednesday for vaust flights to the US!!! I'll ask the casino, gaming and lottery commission for a copy of the licence. From past experience, the terms can't be changed at all, unapproved changes to a lottery can be prosecuted, and the promoter can't frustrate entries being made.
