10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I did not get my Amex card because of the promotion - I got it because of all the other things - none of which have changed.

Glad your other AMEX MR features haven't changed because mine sure have with no option to transfer to QF shortly.... I just wrote to them to advise I will be cancelling my Platinum credit card when it expires at the end of November unless the option to transfer points to AA is likely in the near future. If they can do it (option to transfer to AA) in other countries they can do it here.

IIRC, The option to transfer MR points to AA (or even UA) existed in early 2005.

ISTR it was removed from the Oz programmes, possibly due to pressure from QF.

Then one can't transfer them in 2000 lots to enter the lottery by next Wednesday for vaust flights to the US!!! I'll ask the casino, gaming and lottery commission for a copy of the licence. From past experience, the terms can't be changed at all, unapproved changes to a lottery can be prosecuted, and the promoter can't frustrate entries being made.

Umm - what on earth has this to do with lottery rules? Amex may have made changes to the promotion rules but the promotion is not a lottery. The fact that you want to transfer points to a lottery does not mean that Amex T&Cs are bound by gaming rules.

The majority of 7 Eleven stores are doing the right thing by accepting Amex for any purchase and any amount, but there's always the exceptions...
Just tell them you'll buy at another 7 Eleven if they don't take Amex, they'll soon get the message ;)

Unfortunately the ones I've been on on George St say they make so little on bus tix they don't take cards on them. Dunno if it's legal but other shops do the same (with visa) except one in Aust. square.

Have you reported that to Amex? They want to know about companies that refuse Amex but have access to process amex

Now before we respond to my post lets all remember Lindsay's message about tolerance and just because an AMEX CSO told me something doesn't mean its true.

So just got off the telephone to ask why no points posted for my latest group of transactions and was told that posting can now take up to 4 to 6 weeks because of the number of transactions and the scrutiny they place on them. I thought fair enough my postcard said 8 to 10 weeks.

I then asked about capping and he told me that if you got a postcard there will be no capping and that if you signed up online or rang and said I heard about this from a friend etc you will be capped.

By posting this it doesn't mean that I agree with this decision - just relaying the latest inconsistent message from AMEX.

Probably another change in our habits - I've never checked my Amex account online quite so much!!

Still got 3 transactions to get my next 10T/5K for end of month. Looks like we'll be eating out tonight...and I'll have to get a bottle of wine from the local and always need bread and milk from IGA.

skeltonl, now those coments from Amex makes some sense. However, as you state, being told by a CSR is one thing, being told in writing from Amex is binding. I'm glad to see that they are being more vigorous on the scrutiny of how cardholders have been tranacting. Execption reports must have been thick in the first couple of weeks, so they are battling to review them all. As people understand the rules and Amex apply them consistently, then the promo should run smoother.

I think some further clarification from Amex (bring up the promo webpages again, with clearer rules and pointing out what cannot be done to earn the bonus points). Perhaps they are aiming to bring them back in late September/early October for people to be able to sign up for a full October transaction run.

I, for one, hope that your AMEX CSO was speaking the truth, as that sounds like a good outcome (for me at least).

And now for something different:

I have been looking for my wife for the past week to try and tell her to get out and spend, spend, spend on the AMEX due to this exciting promo, but I haven't been able to find her.

She finally came home with a carload full of shopping and more on the way delivered to home, plus a mountain of AMEX bills higher than I could have imagined. "Wow, you've outdone yourself for this promo!!"

"What promo??" she said... ;)

Because the original promotion specifically mentioned the 8-10 weeks for bonus points posting, anyone concerned about not getting their due bonus points will need to wait 10 weeks before asking Amex about it. This includes any capping that may be imposed contrary to the originally published conditions.

The fact that they initially started posting bonus points within 24 hours does not mean they have to continue doing so.
I then asked about capping and he told me that if you got a postcard there will be no capping and that if you signed up online or rang and said I heard about this from a friend etc you will be capped.
Those that signed up on-line by following the advertisement on the Amex web site were also presented with the "no limits" terms and conditions, so they should also be honoured.

Thanks for relaying the information.

Thanks for the info. Like NM said I think capping based on whether you received the postcard is a little risky for them given that the online application said no limits.

SO this thread has hit 1100+ replies in 10 days - wonder how far it will go with another 42 days ;)

Oh that is just beautiful :D. She took you to your word (and your card). Now you have to pay for it all - I only hope she bought you something to dull the pain.

I got our Amex bill this morning. Actually a lot less than I thought it would be

Maybe there should be a promo for guessing which Amex CSO got it right. So many people have been given conflicting info.

Well, after 15k of bonus points added on, they seemed to have dried up.

So from skimming the last 50-100 posts or so, either:

  • The cap exists! *cue dramatic shrill tone*
  • The processing mechanisms are severely overloaded and backlogged.
  • I won't see anything in bulk until at least 4-6 weeks (or 8-10 weeks).
Either way, life goes on.

"Would you like to take advantage of our convenient interest free instalment plan, with monthly payments over the next three months?"

Who am I to knock back such an offer?

Just adding to the picture...

My friend called AMEX just then, the CSR also said that all people without the original postcard will be capped at 10k/month.

Thanks for posting that - it makes me feel a lttle better knowing that I am not the only one who received that information from AMEX

So reading the last couple of pages, it would appear that Amex has stopped transfering Bonus points (but will still hopefully awrd tem down the track).

So a queston to anyone...

Has anyone received any Bonus Points today from the promotion?

By that to be precise (to remove any late posting of previous days) that when you look at your detailed transaction record for your points that shows for each and every transaction.

I had my last bonus points on 23/9

And despite enough qualifying transactions nil on 24 and 25/9.

Has anyone received a bonus with the date of 25/9?

My normal 1.5 points per $ are posting fine.

Thanks.

May I ask - did you receive a postcard?
