Data point:

Nov - 81 Transactions - 40K posted, now owed 121K based on the promo I was offered by the website and accepted in good faith.

Interestingly I am wondering if I am going to be questioned on Movember as I am going to have around 25-30 Movember transactions as people are giving me cash and I am paying online to make it easier for them :)

Bunch of mo bro's at work hit me for a donation so have been working through that over the last couple of days. Will likely end up with 10 or so Movember donations

Is that a prayer? Or are you trying to convince someone

Com'n ... I don't Think that AMEX CSRs are reading this thread and that your posts will be some kind of evidence against them

Can you give us the exact last date you had 5,000 points credited to your account?

My husband's card reached another 10 transaction lot yesterday. Another 5K bonus posted to his account today so no stoppage on his. Go figure.

Who gets the tax deduction in this situation?

Well one assumes that you are putting their names in for the tax receipt...so with two dozen different people issued tax receipts you should have no problem if queried.

Well it is 10 weeks today from when many started registering.

With T&C stating points can take upto 10 weeks from when they are earnt (ie after 5, 10 or 20th) people who have never had points awarded should start as soon as that anniversary date is reached...assuming that Amex is to honour the T&C that is.

For others who received bonus points initially till Sept 23/34...it will be in another weekish time (though some like me that received points for all 3 promos may have to wait another week or so till the extra points awarded are made up for).

Code:
Month Transactions Points Credited Points Owed
September^ 23 5,000 5,000
October 70 0 35,000
November# 85 0 40,000

^ from date of registration (18/9)
# up to and including 25/11, with at least 2 transactions to post from yesterday (plus any from my wife). Goal is 90, so I'm well ahead of target  - think I need to re-set my target to 100 :D

Hopefully, one day very soon (end of 10 week "in limbo" period), my first 5K bonus points will post (from September).

From my count I would start expect points to come through on December 4 ...... I think Amex should just put the bonus points in now to relieve all the call centre staff who will have to endure a flurry of calls from us chasing the points up.

I put their names on the tax receipt as people were quite aware of the benefit that they would be missing if I got to steal their tax deduction ;)

And of course your "benefits" may well exceed any tax advantage that may be available to the donor ;).

Although where a married couple makes donations, one should consider making the donation in the name of the taxpayer with the highest marginal tax rate to maximise the deduction....but I'd consult your Tax Adviser to make sure.

If you have a donation receipt in your wife/husbands name you can claim it in either name i do beleive!

To date bonus point status:

  • I have received all 30K bonii for my 59 transactions @10T/5K this month; I have 4 days and another 11 transactions for another 10K ....

Has any other Plat CC holder who was getting 2 MR points per dollar (usual 1 and 0.5 Plat CC bonus, plus a 0.5 "platinum accelarator" since late Sep 08) noticed a change in the crediting?

My account now seems to be getting the usual 1 pt per dollar plus 0.5 "platinum accelarator". There has been no crediting of 0.5 Plat CC bonus for about a week. The effect is the same as usual - 1.5 pts per dollar, but the change seems a bit unusual.

I have, it happened to me about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Not sure what the accelerator things was, and no-one at Amex can tell me, but I'm still getting it and not the normal Platinum bonus. I assumed it was may have been because I hit the points limit for 1.5 points per $. That limit is $100k (from date of issue of card I believe), does this have any relevance in your case?

I have a plat credit card branded thru my association.
I too started to receive Platinum Points Accelerator on 27/09/08. My renewal for the card is 16/10/08 and for a while I received both Platinum Points Accelerator and Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points effectively getting 2 points per dollar. CSR had no idea thought is was a bonus from the association!!
On 20/11/08 stopped getting Platinum Credit Card Bonus Points .I am no where near my cap as renewal only 1 month ago I have not phoned CSR to find out why yet. I am however getting my 5000 bonuses thru so far 20000 for November

I think I'd prefer to be getting the 5000 bonuses (I only got 5000 which was poc'd then nothing since) than the extra .5 points! It would be interesting to know what its all about, but I'm not going to dwell on it too much since I'm still getting the 1.5 per $ that was the original T&C of the card. My card is through CPA Australia, is there any common ground here?
