1000 points for 5 transactions

I have just received 1000 bonus points  (Plat charge card) but can't see where from, but who cares. Time to start using the card again for a while.

These will prove to be useful as I owe them 1090 points from a Plat credit card) refund a couple of weeks ago.

Now it is not happening EVERY 5 transactions. So some other calculation applies
Have a look at the date of the posting. If there more than on transaction on any one date that takes it over the 5 tx it bonus may be applied to any one of them - so don't look for sequential logic.

An easier way to work it out is to count all the transactions and divide by 5 then truncate. This should give you a guide.

Note that by making a standard payment to the ATO, one gerneates 2 transactions. :D

~15 tx for the month to date and 1000 bonii points. Amex Ultimate. Looks like my local Quick e Mart will get another AMEX work over of $2 txs!

Anyone break the glass ceiling of 6K bonuses yet?

I've only had 14tx MTD to only 2K bonuses so far but this is just a shout out to The Grace Hotel here in Sydney that accepts Amex for $3 large latte's . Looks like I'll be seeing TGH every weekday now for coffee rather than the liquid stuff from 7/11 :p

Could it be that transactions need to be above a certain figure. Has anyone gotten bonus for a lot of low value buys?

I'm not about to do a mean average on mine ...my transactions range from $12.95 to $513.

[frustrated rant start]
Somebody in Amex loads up a promo and doesn't tell the people it actually affects (the cardholders). Problem is for them, there are people like us who are onto them like rats up a drainpipe. Feel the need to ring up Amex and tell somebody what I am thinking (after deleting the expletives).

Why can't they get one right...that is:

1. Think up a promo
2. Educate their cardholders (preferably in advance) - remember the postcards Amex
3. Educate their Customer Service staff
4. Load the promo against the cards (whether after registration, or with auto-registering certain members at Marketing' s discretion)
5. Have the points auto-load (no manual loading please Amex - it's too expensive for you and too time consuming for us waiting for them)
6. Have happy cardholders (adding nice number of bonus points to their accounts)
7 Have happy merchants (more people spending in their establishments)
8 Have happy Amex management (seeing transactions increase, earnings up and hopefully not too many disputes)

Is that too much to ask Amex :?::shock::p:rolleyes: - just once (but preferably every time!)

Nope, not this time.....[/end frustrated rant]

Would not a promo be more successful if we knew why and how we were getting points. Then we could go at it during its term.

I think we have to be thankful for a bit that Amex actually has the guts (the foolishness?) to run another promotion based on the number of transactions alone.

FWIW I've only received one set of 1,000 bonus points so far, and I've had more than 10 transactions since 01/08. So for one thing I have no idea when they started "counting" transactions for me for the purposes of this "promotion". (The bonus description says it is 1,000 points for 5 transactions, so I don't think it's a case of I get 1,000 for 10 and another gets it for 5, etc., similar to last year).

Additionally, my lowest valued transaction in August so far was dated 10/08 and was worth $4.78. Since that might be too soon for consideration, the next lowest valued transaction in August was dated 03/08 for $5.00.

I might just go get a piece of fruit from Coles and put that on the card!

There is also the possibility that the promo was fired off early by the IT guys, before all the other bits were done!

Just make sure it's above $1! The boyf bought a piece of ginger from Woolies yesterday, cost all of $0.27 and it showed up as 0 points on MR. :( It did show up as a tx on MR though, so I'm wondering if it counts as a tx for the purpose of the promo. I agree, the lack of T&Cs is frustrating.

Have had 13 (12 excluding the ginger) transactions from yesterday ranging from $0.27 to over $200 and quite a few sub $5 tx from 7/11 :p, but no bonus yet....

Points To Date: 2K
Transactions: 15
Min: $2.98 (chewing gum)
Max: $594.95 (SQ flights)
Ave: $99.53/tx

It appears my bonus hits on the 6th transaction. So it's the 6th, 12th that the 1K is added.

As per usual with Amex and transaction counts, I can't make any sense whatsoever of the pattern.

Have had 6,000 bonus points, but only 29 transactions since 01/08. Even if the count started earlier, say around 29/07, and allowing for the first bonus being "slow" (after the 10 transactions, as we got 2 lots of bonus at once), it doesn't make sense, as the next 4,000 points don't reflect an additional 20 transactions between the first bonus instance and the last.

Unless 6,000 is the cap (whether monthly, total or whatever - time will tell), then there have been more than 5 transactions since the last bonus, but with no sign of another.

For what it is worth, the smallest transaction amount is $2 (Brisbane airport short term carpark for less than 15 minutes - the automated machines don't care about minimum amounts!) and the maximum, well, let's just say its nice the ATO allow Amex for BAS payments, but I had to break it into multiples because there is a maximum transaction amount, but at least it generated 4 txns (and I use 2 different Amex cards anyway).

I have had 6k credited so far, but based on the narrations I should have 8k, so perhaps in the next few days I will have an idea.

My opinion is that bonuses are not posting automatically, they are entered manually and this explains the lag. I received 1 bonus after 11 transactions, then nothing. My transactions then went "missing" with hardly any movement to the balance. Another 4 bonuses (at total 27 transactions) posted just before they reappeared, since then nothing.

and edman, go wash your mouth out with soap..

I agree. My bonuses have appeared at random. I've got 3 of them so far and 2 appeared on consecutive txs with the 3rd appearing just 3 txs later.
