Love the new branding and it should resonate with the Italians. Hopefully they can provide a decent service and I will definitely sign up to the status match just in case something good comes of it

No, it doesn't. But there are a few options that may be accessible to some in Australia. E.g. Qatar, BA, American Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Emirates.

I've applied but haven't yet heard back. (The fine print says the match will be processed by 31 December and that the status will be valid in 2022, so not too concerned.)

Got my status match back within a day!! All in Italian! Used Google translate, I went from Qatar Gold to ITA Volare PREMIUM. I'll post the text - they're saying to use the email for now as proof of status!

After I applied last week, I noticed that they updated their website with an additional requirement to attach an identity document to the email. That wasn't listed as a requirement last week. So I've sent them another email with a copy of my passport. Haven't received a response yet to either email.

Yes, I included a copy of my passport. I had a bit of a look around what there is of their website - it seems to be a work in progress, particularly the frequent flyer bit! Nevertheless it seems they're up and running. Good luck to them.

Pleased to advise that a confirmation email has just been received from ITA on successful matching to Premium membership with my Krisflyer Gold.

So finally got around to doing this.
Sent off at 2205 and received confirmation email at 2228, guess they are on the ball over there currently

I used my QR Platinum status and within a couple of days matched to their executive level. BTW my QR status was also matched from VA. If it was declined, as a fall-back plan I would have had another crack using KF gold status. Not sure if I will need it but at least it gives me a couple of other options.

Just to add a little more excitement and some speculation into the mix, there is apparently a bidding war by Star Alliance-aligned Lufthansa, Oneworld-aligned IAG/British Airways, and its SkyTeam partners for ITA.

Just imagine if Lufthansa snagged ITA and we all had top level Miles and More status. I can hear the FRA FCL Terminal paging me now for an immediate 6 hr pre-departure quaffing and Flounging session.

When did you apply for the match? I was approved weeks ago but haven't had anything since.

There's a report on FlyerTalk saying the virtual card includes the SkyPriority logo which would be handy.

I got the email this morning as well. I was matched to the "Premium" tier and my virtual card has a SkyTeam Elite Plus logo on it.

I did post about the bidding war between the groups elsewhere on this site but it was also mentioned that ITA have locked into SkyTeam for 12 months no matter who buys in.
