See you all this Saturday.

markis10, can you pencil me in for September (although I would prefer later in the month if there is an option).

I am also happy to provide transport that weekend if I am there as well, but first dibs to this weekend's pax list.

I am flying to MEL Friday evening on DJ and staying at Hilton on the park.

I haven't booked my return trip but a CL visit will decide my airline of booking.

Sent from a cool Apple product using Aust Freq Fly app

I think I will be up for the sep one, all 3 days, my first AFF first run, and first ever first lounge would be hard to resist

Excuse the typos, this was sent from my iPhone using Fat fingers

Pencil me in, starts looking at the Jetstar fares now :D probably only for two days as I will just be back from Europe then so annual leave will be scarce

Are the dates for September definite? If yes I'll book my Jetstar flights soon

Just an update on next weekend, the plan is:

Airways Museum in the morning, we will be breaking into 2 groups for this.

Airways Museum / Civil Aviation Historical Society

I have booked a table at the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport for lunch where the food will be 50% the menu price, drinks cash bar, anyone wanting to use their JB lunch credit let me know, not a problem.

Afternoon will be lounge based, with the DJ lounge being the centre point with CL access for the chosen few ;) at BRs discretion.

At this stage I am looking at the next event to be held the weekend of Sept 8 & 9, with the following plan:

Saturday
Double F lounge run
DC3 twilight flight (weather should be better then)

Sunday
On airport bus tour (limited numbers should this proceed and priority will be given to original ticket holders)
Lunch with JB747 (Gods/Employers permitting)
ATC & Rescue Fire Fighting/Airline Maintenance tour in PM

Monday (for those that want to take the day off and TBC)
Tour of a training facility run by one of the airlines.

I will be there on Saturday all day, and into everything.
Also I'm in on 8 and 9th Sept looking forward to it.

Regards Dalescott

I will gain be interested in September, but will have to ask for permission again, and considering they said no to the last attempt, it’s not looking too good.

For those of us without a car, what are the best public transport options for:
* City to the Airways Museum
* Airways Museum to MEL
* MEL to City

We will be catching the Skybus on arrival and departure in Melbourne but thought we'd give public transport a try on Saturday.

Are you aware that September is football finals month, the Royal Show and other events?

This could make things a bit tight.

A Tram. serfty has a post about this somewhere in this thread IIRC
B Expect there will be Melbourne residents with cars, people with rental cars. or taxis. And Serfty knows the public transport way
C Skybus or the serfty special bus/train combo

Edit
See posts 257 & 258.
The orange is a bus route 478.
Tram 59 goes this way [black dots]

Tram is good for the Museum, to Mel cab or a lift with one of us will work and Skybus return!

This could make things a bit tight.

The Show and Football is towards the end of the month.

2012 AFL Finals Series
Week 1: AFL Elimination/Qualifying Finals - 7, 8 & 9 September 2012

Depending on the teams involved could be three days of football.

You're right, Royal Show starts 22 Sept.

If the 7-9 Sept w/e is chosen, we could include a footy match;). it just means hotels and flights need to be booked early:)

While the fans may be more excited than normal, the result is less games than most weekends in Melbourne, and given the fixtures are not set yet it's unlikely any hotel bookings can be made by them. At $200 a night for the IHG properties it's looks good, and there is enough notice to grab a cheap airfare.

The 59 tram takes 42 minutes to go from the city (Flinders St) to 57-Hawker St/Matthews Ave (Airport West). If you catch one at 9:06am from Finders st., it should get to Hawker St. at 9:48, from there it's an 8 minute walk across the footbridge and up Vaughan St to the Museum.

With the 478 Bus, it's scheduled to depart from the East of Essendon R/S and stop at King St in Matthews Ave. 9:42; a Craigieburn line train departs Flinders St at 9:12 to get to Essendon R/S 9:29. From King St, the woalk would be around 10 minutes.

There's a 478 bus at 2:45pm that gets one to the Airport by 3pm.

Presuming it's still a 10:00am start, I'll be on the 9:30am 478 bus from Essendon R/S

Hey Markis10, have just caught up on the last 10 or so pages. bummer that the original planned itinerary has had to be changed, but it looks like it's sort of morphed into a different but still very fun event!

The September dates are a possibility for me, next weekend was not, so I'm happy for me, happy for you.:)

Sorry that the May event is not going ahead in its original format. I couldn't make the May event as it was my son's birthday.

Unfortunately I can't make Sept as we fly to the LOTFAP the day before. I hope everyone enjoy's themself.

Thank you so much serfty (and others).
The Airways Museum info gave the tram stop number but not the line number and as I am not from Melbourne I had no idea!
Thanks to you I am now armed with all the information I need for Saturday and will print this page:D

AFL finals won't be known til the end of August.. And it could be Melbourne teams anyway!

This might work for me.. Parts of it perhaps. Will check the calendar!!
