I wonder what the next announcement is going to be.

Am I the only one nervous about going to this event? Quite strange really, as my career is all about being social and have no problem talking cough to anyone...but I haven't attended anything like this since the days of mIRC meets back in 1995...LOL and got that weird butterfly feeling in my stomach. Too late to pull out I guess...

Wow... you did mIRC in the days? Impressive!

I would not worry about it at all (I know that's easier said than done :)). There's always a first for everyone (and I can always relate about my first Do, first meeting anyone on AFF, etc.).

LOL yes I was a tragic mIRC'er back in the days...way back even when only bulletin boards first started. Used to go to monthly meets with a friend of mine..and still friends with a couple of people till this day which is nice.
It is incredibly rare for me not to be working on a Saturday night (first one free in a LONG time) and I had the choice of Mr Mella's Auntie's 50th birthday or the AFF dinner. Screw the relo's, I need the mattress run!

Don't worry. Seriously. 90%+ of people attending these things are friendly (even though they may be socially reserved) . Yes there are in jokes and clique behaviour at times from some but you have nothing to worry about.

We're all friendly.

And besides, if you don't come I'll have to slap you around a bit with a large trout!

I think Simo means the announcement of Lawlass's (next) engagement.

Hi Katie - we posted at same time but you make no mention of QF8 (I thought you were on same) - have you received SMS from QF re QF8 delay - If not contact QF now seeing there are a number of AFF'ers on the flight.

Dammit!!!

QF8 delayed......

Oh the dilemmas of a FF......

Stay with QF8 and miss the F lounge......

Or give up 14J Skybed and make the F lounge....

Decisions......

Alright..... :(

I'm now on QF509.

Has anyone on the QF/JQ combined itinerary checked in online? Or are we all waiting till the airport to try and get both BPs??

What's the situation with transport to and from the airport? Earlier there was discussion of putting names in for maxi-taxis, but I notice now there's discussion of a bus - I'm a little confused - what are we doing for transport from JQ1 to HSW?

Oh, and I need to update my hotel listing - I will be bringing a friend to drinks, so my +1 is now taken up.

Yup, I checked in at home at about 7:26am. I got the "as your booking involves an international flight we are unable to give you boarding passes, please print ou thte checkin confirmation PDF and bring it to the airport with you" message. OK, maybe that wasn't exactly it, so it's not a direct quote, but that's the gist of it.

We're in 48A and B SYD-MEL - hope it's an AFFer in 48C!

Another victim of QF8 being delayed inconveniently in time for JQ1. Called Qantas Platinum and was rebooked onto QF505 J. Yep, pretty damn early in the morning, and I'll be likely lining up with everyone else (since I've heard that asking JQ at SYD T2 has been fraught with danger).

The other option was QF513 (seems like QF509 was full in J).

Thumbs up to Andrea from Qantas Premium. :)

You'll be fine! I did my first event earlier this year and found everyone wanted to talk to me...novelty factor perhaps :p This is only #2 for me so the nerves are still there.
