2014 Centurion Benefits

I have been a Amex Platinum for 2 years now, 3rd annual charge went through about 2 months ago. In the past 18 months i have managed to get work to allow me to put all my business travel on my cards and be reimbursed so my platinum card is charging about $200,000 a year worth of hotels, car hire, restaurants, bars etc. Is this something Centurion worthy ? I have a lot of short stays of 2 to 3 nights only and the $100 credit now etc is good, but upping to $200 amenity would add up and probably cover a lot of the stays along with more upgrades and AVIS benefits as i currently rent a lot of cars.

This all seems doom and gloom here with benefit removal, but i think i could get value (so long as a join fee was waived).

Do you think that spending in those kind of areas is worthy, or am i dreaming only being in year 3 with them, is more of a 5 + year membership required?

I reckon you'd be ok I've been told they prioritize luxury spending so food bars & hotels are good. If you think you can get value out of the $5k annual fee then good luck to you grab it with both hands & don't pay the joining fee nobody pays that. I put $500k+ a year through it but lots of it is business expenditure (suppliers) so I'm sure you will be fine I used to put x 3 that with the ATO but all good things come to an end.

Personally I find the hotel perks good and you definitely get more upgrades with black you just need to book the spas in advance to make sure you get the benefit.

Thanks for that info mate! I have emailed them in before registering my interest, and they said they dont reveal how they pick or who they pick, just to hang tight, is that the only way or can you demand for it? overall spending is about 350k a year with 200 or a tad more on hotels eating out etc.

No demanding it unless you are some high profile celebrity. You just need to register your interest and wait. It can be a few months though so don't expect it to be next week

Ben IMHO if that is your level of annual spend and given the flight of customers from this card I would definitely be calling them and suggest in the strongest possible terms that if they do not offer you Cent you will be off to Altitude Black. Your spend level / profile does warrant an offer - only prob you have is reasonably short time of only 2yrs holding Plat - but I would try it - worst case is you get a refusal.

I would have been doing around this on my Plat when the invitation arrived, this was 4-5+ years ago now.. depends what changes were made last year, so will be good to see a post back if they do send you an invite.

Mmm makes you feel special doesn't it until you pay the $5k and it sinks in lol . To be fair though if you spend that much on hotels & food you might be ok

No mention of a $5k joining fee either

I got the invite after 10 months on the Platinum Card and my spending was nowhere near yours.
They must have liked my looks or my spending pattern :)

(Once my RM commented on the photo on my website, so they do seem to google you...)

Oh wow. Wrote back and they told me they have added me to "the waiting list as their is very high interest in the card" lol couldn't contain my laughter.

Lol there's very high fees not sure about interest though

The very high interest is a bonus for them. Hopefully soon you will pay amex for the privilege of having such a high interest buzz. Makes one feel genuinely so warm and fuzzy inside.... 5000 reasons

I received my new card with a chip. It is not as black as before and also a bit lighter.

Did anyone already get their plastic centurion?

What do you mean plastic, are they going back to plastic?

My chip and pin is metal, still heavy according to people I hand it to and still can't be risked in machines that suck in the whole card for fear it will get stuck again

Mmmm I thought you can request plastic if you want one.
but I like the metal version better!

Pukka, I always put my metal card into readers, car park self pay, ATM etc and never found a problem....
is there any type of machine that I should be aware?

If you're ever in Japan some of the restaurants & shops have these small white card readers which pulls the card right in.

I was in Niseko last year and the card got stuck 3 times in one week, screwdrivers needed to get it out :(

You can ask for a plastic card as an additional card for contactless payments. The titanium does not allow that.
I wonder if you can get a big discount if you only want the plastic version :)

Ha ha makes you feel special doesn't it :(

Not that needy although you can have five thousand reasons to feel special
