Having fun with Langton's now. There was a flaw with their CENT150 code, I was able to buy $200 worth of goon and use the $150 off code. All went well till they found out, cancelled my order and they said they will refund the $50 straight back to my card. Still haven't done it of course.

Not surprising - and make sure you check your credit card for any unauthorised transactions that might have occurred when applying the code! An update to my situation - The $1500 of unauthorised transactions was refunded to me early this week, so I decided to place a $500 order with the code. The reverse to your situation happened - the code appeared to calculate correctly in the cart ($512 - $150 = $362), but I was then billed the full $500! Langton's are now going through the process of refunding me yet again (I asked them to cancel the whole order, as I was just so fed up with it all). Their team leader basically told me that their IT people are still unsuccessful in isolating and fixing the bug, and I was advised not to try to use the voucher again as there are still problems associated with it. No wonder there are now threads on AusWine forum speculating as to whether their website is now run by the work experience kids!

Fri I received nice shiny new MP Diamond cards in mail - further ext from Nov 14 to May 15 - funny thing is I cancelled Cent 3 mths ago - go figure.

Kind of annoying for me as I put most of my travel so that I can maintain Gold with CX. Now, my count starts at zero, but I only got Diamond for another six months. Still haven't received my new card yet. Should have put all those points towards QF and I won't be far from Plat - oh well.

Should I be cancelling my centurion card?

No new announcement. No new benefit. However, I spent too much in travel this year so the points kind of pay for most of the fee. I wish I don't have to justify the card each year as my renewal is coming up too.

Okay, connected with Linda Sim who is the Loyalty Manager at Cathay. I am sure a few people like me didn't like the reset as all my travel in May actually push my QF to 40 points away from Plat. Amex didn't want to know about Cathay and pushing the Emirates line and seems to think there is currently no business relationship with them. I have sent a message to Linda Sim on everyone's behalf just to clarify what is going on.

So i got the invitation today.

$5k join fee still being touted, is there a definitive strategy how to get this removed?

I have no problem paying the annual fee, i feel i can get value from it with my travel movements, hotel choices etc, however the 5k sign up fee is just ridiculous as it all seems we agree on.

I spend 25-35k a month on the card, with 3/4 FHR bookings and probably 6 Platinum Table dining bookings a month with a lot being overseas so I'm sure they get enough in commissions from me not to need 5k initiation

Any definitive ways around this guys?

Thanks

Just tell them you're not paying it.

I didn't pay it & we get less perks for a bigger annual fee than most other countries

I'd be amazed if they said no

IIRC you were a previous member though. However, there is no harm giving it a try.

Any tips for sweet talking them? or is the blunt up no the way?

Had a follow up email from "Centurion Acquisitions Team" in Pyrmont, 5k i can deal with, 10k hit i think my Accountant would have a heart attack and it wouldnt feel great myself either haha.

Would it count when i emailed AMEX 6 months ago registering interest that they replied going " the car is for our most elite and comes with a annual fee of $5000" no mention of joining fee or is that clutching at straws?

The fee almost feels like they know your successful and can afford but, but dont realise your smart enough to know its absurd

I'd just say that you've talked to Centurion card members (which you have) that have told you that the joining fee was waived so you don't see why you should pay it. I suppose worst case scenario they could give you some bonus points equivalent to the joining fee but I still think they will just "waive it" to get the $5k a year fee. As I said before the benefits are not as great as they imply but if you think it will work for you good luck to you. I'm not sure I get the $5k fee back each year in benefits but I find it useful & I'm not counting every $ of benefits which I think Is probably fairly typical.

I'm getting bored with the "wow that card is heavy line though" !! Seriously at least 50% of people say that if I hand them the card.

I'm no longer a Centurion Card holder, but I recall QP membership was one of the benefits I used the most.

MP membership has also come and gone. I have the extension to 2015.

So heres the email response i get

"In regards to the Joining fee, along with the annual fee - it allows you access to the Centurion membership. The joining fee is a onetime payment at the start of your membership with Centurion and effective October 2012 that all new members will be charged this fee. Can you please share the names of your friends/ colleagues that received a fee - waiver and can address this with Senior Management?"

Was not expecting that, surely something against privacy etc and not that i would name people but just not sure if thats a usual thing for them to ask? Surely doesn't seem to nice haha

I believe asking wouldn't constitute a breach of privacy...and well within their right...
whether you choose to provide the info will be another matter :-)

So my Qantas club renewed today which was good as I thought someone said that was gone. Also managed to get $40 worth of $5 shop local credits so only $4960 to go & I'm in front :)

New Centurion benefit: Etihad Gold membership if you book an Etihad business or first class flight
before 31 October 2014, for travel before 31 March 2015.
