Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Apart from the census I've never been asked about my race in any survey I've done in Australia (that I recall anyway).
Occasionally I get questions asking if I am of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island descent, but that is about it.

But I digress.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Trump won in the right states despite losing the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes.

So you believe it is immoral for South Australia to have an ALP premier over the last 6 years?
2010-Libs 51.6%
2014-Libs-53.0%

Or is it just the side that matters?

You should hear the whinging with the electoral boundaries being amended for the next election.

Trump won in the right states despite losing the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes.

To be more precise, this was by ~2.7M votes.

In relation to registered voters that is from 200.1M (as of mid October).

Trump won under the system he - and all candidates - needed to win by. I don't see much point arguing over it anymore. Time to sit back and "enjoy" the coming trainwreck.

I'm pretty sure a few extra "blue crayons" wouldn't make much of a difference

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

I am currently holidaying in NYC and have bookings to travel down to Washington dc for the day to experience the atmosphere at the swearing in of Donald Trump - should be an interesting experience, especially if there are, as expected, leftie type deniers in attendance protesting their displeasure at Trump and the voting system that delivered him the presidency.

Hmm Hilary with her popular vote could have been President of ...(drumroll).....California!!!...

The Donald out of kind consideration is providing inauguration blue "safe spaces" but does not want to call them portaloos for those emotionally affected:

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

This is a great story:

[h=1]How a 23-year-old made $1300-an-hour for a fake news masterpiece[/h]

Annapolis: It was early fall, and Donald Trump, behind in the polls, seemed to be preparing a rationale in case a winner like him somehow managed to lose. "I'm afraid the election is going to be rigged, I have to be honest," the Republican nominee told a riled-up crowd in Columbus, Ohio. He was hearing "more and more" about evidence of rigging, he added, leaving the details to his supporters' imagination.

A few weeks later, Cameron Harris, a new college graduate with a fervent interest in Maryland Republican politics and a need for cash, sat down at the kitchen table in his apartment to fill in the details Trump had left out. In a dubious cyberart just coming into its prime, this bogus story would be his masterpiece.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Regardless of your political leanings the inauguration is quite a spectacle.

Having been in Washington DC last October it made it seem very familiar to see the sights on TV that I recently walked through.

Trump scraped in by 80,000 votes in 3 states.

And Clinton won California by more than her popular vote lead.
About time you got over it.Trump won because he concentrated campaigning in areas he thought he could win.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

Hilary just assumed / expected she would win and did not bother to campaign in many states. That's what the electoral college is for. You have to win a majority of votes IN A MAJORITY of States.

That's why SA has labor premier even though they did not win popular vote. Liberals did not win majority of states. Simple.

BTW DT is now 45th president in case some didn't know.

My two sons won some easy money by betting on Donald winning. They wanted us to get on board but we don't really bet.

I'm actually trying to get odds on whether he will make the first term. Any tips from your sons are appreciated.

Was thinking last night that those odds would have been attractive, and I should have looked into it. But I'm not much of a betting person either.

Re: 2016 US Presidential Election

At 70 I consider him to be way too old to handle the job. Two terms would seem to be most unlikely.
