After some acrimonious posts (I was particularly taken by the one referring to concentration camps as Mrsoatek had family members interned in the real thing and later exterminated some decades ago), we have now seen a return to some positive discussion. We were being told by several from the Shorten side on AFF that the sun would come up and life go on when Bill won the election. But those initial posts when they lost were not reflective of this sentiment.
As for policy directions, the Morrison government said their policy position was encapsulated in the budget and forward estimates accompanying it. There is a lot of detail about every government policy and program area. They just didn't come up with much that was new in addition, but did they really need to? There is a lot in the budget documents that should be positive for many people.
We are signed up for the Paris targets and probably meeting them, but the broader polity is being condemned for not wanting to sign up to open ended climate policy and electric cars without hearing the detail. I think most electors agree that moving away from coal is a good medium term goal, but they want some assurances about the impact on jobs, cost, replacement technologies for baseload generation etc. I expect we will remain a responsible democracy doing our bit alongside the rest of the world, but not sacrificing ourselves on the climate altar.
