I was planning to go to South Africa in mid 2020 for a safari and it will be one of the first trips I do when allowed to.

You can still do this in NSW, as it is essential retail during a lockdown.
Bunnings was open here too. For tradies I understand the 'essential' bit, but not essential for someone who wants to go looking for a new hanging basket with their small snuffling dog sat in the trolley

Wrong thread I know, but Bunnings stores continue to be listed as places of close and casual contact.

With this year's Kimberley trip cancelled we're planning same time next year and with Adventure Wild instead of Intrepid. They have been excellent in keeping in touch with us, especially considering we haven't given them one dollar.

If by some miracle our border opens with WA in the next 10 days we'll try to put flights and hotels together to depart on the Aug 25 trip but I know that is as likely as me winning the lotto, especially considering I don't ever buy a ticket!

Have booked two 3 bedroom apartments for Queenstown NZ In February. It’s cancelable so will wait to see what Jacinda allows us to do. 6 of the party are in NZ and 6 will be travelling from Australia for my partner’s 60th. Such a beautiful part of the world and hope we can go. No flights booked yet….

Eurovision 2022 in Italy. SQ J redemption booked, now just play the waiting game. ☺️
Honey … meet you there !!! That is exactly where I want to be.. with A little side stay on Lake Como Villa D’Este (long term dream) and then drop and flop in Taormina in Sicily (and I know a special place to book)🤗🤗🤗
Bring.It.On…
but not booking …. yet

Yep… North Korea is a safer bet than WA

Ever the optimist - have booked flights to Europe on July 4, 2022 (first day in July I could get award flights) . . . . still hoping for some local travel (Tassie and NZ) in 2021 but all bookings are fully refundable. Also plan Canada in September 2022. Fingers crossed.

This is how I see things unfolding over the new few years:
- Delta variant continues to cause chaos to the travel industry
- 14 days hotel quarantine the standard for most countries with some countries imposing 21 days quarantine
- The Epsilon variant, followed by zeta then eta appears in some countries and full border closure in Australia with quarantine center being set up in a remote island off the coast of Darwin
- we ran out of Greek Alphabets and it was decided to use Chinese characters instead to name new covid-19 variants
- by late 2022, we still struggle to get enough people vaccinated to declare herd immunity (experts believe 98.5% required due to the new highly infectious variants).
- experts believes reasonably effective vaccines, social distancing measures and effective covid-19 treatment is the only way to go when they have used all the 5,000 common Chinese characters.

I think I will start planning for overseas trips then.

* I have been away from Australia since late Feb 2020. Currently in HK (yes I spent 21 nights in hotel quarantine in June) and have been travelling between Malaysia and Hong Kong and spent a total of 50 days in quarantine.

I was booked to fly to New York on 29 August but the change in quarantine requirement in Hong Kong last week ruined my trip so I'm staying put until my trip to KL in late Nov.
