Like many on here. Have spent the last year and a half juggling bookings or getting refunds and credits. The (only) bonus has been that semi retirement has turned into delayed retirement so I have worked the whole of that time enhancing the travel budget and increasing my FF points balance. After shifting, rebooking or getting refunds or credits on a number of trips the plans for 2022 are at present....

Singapore for 3 nights in August.
SQ J reward flight from Singapore to Male.
5 nights Pullman Maldives all inclusive.
SQ J reward flight from Male to LHR.
5 nights in London.
14 night RCL cruise from Southampton to Spain, Spanish Islands, Portugal.

??? flights travel destination for two weeks to be organised.

Sept/Oct RCL 3 cruises departing from Rome around the Med totaling 26 days.

Flights to Singapore from Sydney, London to Rome and back to Sydney from Rome still to be organised.

Have a large amount of Qantas points (over 2 million) and lessor amounts of KF and Velocity (400K or so of each). Awaiting Velocity's upcoming international partner announcement and Qantas availability before booking.

Taking a...third, I think?...run at a trip to Europe with the family, to use up some KrisFlyer miles moved from Amex right before the Great Devaluation of 2019, so they're getting close to expiry now.

It was going to be Easter (like it was Easter 2021, then October 2021) but then we got invited to a wedding in the US at the end of May so now we're shooting for late April to early June.

Four of us are booked in SQ J MEL-xSIN-BCN about ten days after Easter, then somehow the week of Qantas' announced restart schedules I managed to get four awards in QF J YVR-xSYD-MEL for the journey home at the start of June, replacing the SEA-NRT and NRT-MEL awards I got using AA and QF miles on JL. TransAtlantic routing is TBD.

We were offered a refund,15% of a future cruise or 110% FCC plus adding the nights of the cancelled cruise to our current nights cruised. We opted for the third option as the new night's tally takes us to within 1 night of a free 7 day cruise.

We have booked another cruise for later this year and are considering a couple of B@B cruises in 2023 which will take us half way to the next free 7 night cruise.

This years cruise is Barcelona to Venice with Sardinia and Malta included.

Good options
Loved Malta - a real gem

In the interests of burning some points, I'm looking at a month off next September. Something along the lines of:

SIN/HKG - 0.5 weeks
EU 3 weeks
Canada - 1 week

All should hopefully be considered low risk from a Covid/Quarantine perspective.

Given I'm using a J OW Award, I have a habit of maximising flight benefits over logical trip planning :)

So after having our 2022 plans blown out of the water a new trip has emerged.
SQ J awards BNE-SIN then SQ suite awards SIN-LHR.Apartment on the Thames booked.
A stay in Devon with my sister.
Flying LHR-HND mid April wit JL F awards.
Stay in Japan will include another attempt to see Mt.Fuji without cloud early May.

I have a Las Vegas convention that was held annually in the second half of April. It got delayed, delayed then cancelled last year, this year to was delayed and held now this month of October but supposedly minimal attendance Cannot quite make it. So assuming 2022 it is back to April it will be:

1 week in SFO visiting clients
1 week LAS

The other part of my plan is the one week isolation upon return. I'm going to go to the family's rural cabin and spend my time there. it's 2kms from the nearest neighbour, doesn't have power. does have cold running water in the creek. so if I stock up for that before I depart, ask Mrs Albatross to buy some fresh supplies on the way from the airport

The other consideration is to visit a family friend in Philippines. Maybe I could do that on this same trip and have just the one quarantine period. This would be subject to the various country's rules.

  1. A status run to RAR (assuming VA opens Intl) to get Platinum. Spend 5 days or so in RAR. Have read a lot of good things about RAR, so want to try it. Solo trip preferred at this point in time & will probably remain so.

Raro is beautiful. If anyone ever asks where my dream retirement destination is I say Raro. We've stayed once and then visited on a ship a second time. Blog of our first trip here aussiepanda's Trip: Sand between our toes - two weeks laying on the beaches of the Cook Islands and then our second visit here with visit to Aitutaki first then next entry is day at Raro Te King has lost his crown

Just cancelled QFF ASP - LHR May 2022, not confident I will be able to leave and return without heavy quarantine and border crossing pain.

Will re-book for mid Sept to mid Oct 2022, this time maybe France & Poland. Just announced Speedway dates and Torun 1st October. Had tickets and missed Oct 2020 event with COVID.

As mentioned on other threads, we are booked QF1 to LHR departing early March 2002, for 5 weeks, returning on QF2. High fares offset by sleeping in daughter's lounge room at a very low rate.

Have plans for a second trip Dec 2022 to LHR, with side visit to GER or nordic states, returning after New Year..

Really tempted to book flights to Hawaii in the second half of the year.

Started booking for Sep 22, 3-4 weeks in the UK and EU. Mrs & MissM flying SQ J rewards using miles that will expire, I will travel EK or OW and if OW, I may return via the US.

Update: TransAtlantic is now LHR-xYYZ-DEN in Signature/business on Air Canada, using purchased Aeroplan miles for a cost of ~$1700pp (of which over $400 is UK APD).

I was tempted to book until I realise you need to take a PCR test for every leg of the flight for a multi-city itinerary, it is not cheap at $150 AUD each and you basically have to write time off of actually going to the places to get test, and there is no certainly of what travel insurance will cover if you are denied boarding if you test positive. From what I read you can still return a positive PCR test even after you fully recovered as the virus fragment can remain in your body for a while.

I am starting to get back in the groove.I now have organised all the awards for our March to May trip.
Last 2 nights have booked most of our hotels for the UK and Japan.Has been interesting because both Hilton and Marriott at some places advertising pre paid rates that are cancellable but usually only up to 7-30 days before stay.Much more comfortable with that.

Also pays to check all options. For Tokyo it was cheaper to pay for an executive king room in the Tokyo Hilton than a standard room at comparable Marriott properties.

In the UK most of the hotels I booked are in the chain that refunded our non cancellable bookings the day lockdown started and before we even asked. They deserve our loyalty.
