2022 travel plans

Booked QF MEL/PER to SIN in early March. Two travelling and meeting up in Singapore.
One night in SIN and then SQ SIN-HAN. 15 days in Vietnam and then SQ SGN-SIN on March 16th connecting straight through to QF back home.

All flights booked but no accommodation. Planning to do AirBnB's for all of Vietnam. Here's hoping that Vietnam has opened by then. Both travellers vaccinated with AZ as of August so planning a Covid booster late-February if trip plans proceed.

Solo trip to Turkey to see friends and get some dental work zirconium crowns done in Feb. Praying Omicron doesn't torpedo this trip.

Hoping for Fiji with husband in May

Have Princess cruise to PNG booked Nov, hoping it goes forward. We have postponed this cruise twice due to Covid.

Was thinking Phnom Penh end of Feb, but maybe too early. Instead committed and all paid up to go to the Bathurst 12 Hour motor race + Jenolan Caves + a few days in Sydney.

More internationally, Poland and maybe Rome end of June 22. Just booked two nights in Gorzow as round of SpeedwayGP in town and Gorzow books out early. The rest can wait until maybe March to fully book.

Hopefully borders will allow me to do both.

Our plans are now up in the air, literally. With NZ holding off on opening up we are hoping that bAl’s NZ passport and me being his partner will allow us in after Jan 17. Otherwise our Feb 12 departure won’t happen. It mightn’t in any case if QF cancels our flights. We’ll start looking at flying via Sydney and also Air NZ options. This was a DSC J splurge too

Mar/Apr 2022 - trip to India - cancelled booking before tickets can be issued. Never have I ever, called an airline to cancel, after paying for the ticket, before the ticket can be issued!

So on Friday morning I ordered a nice new long lens for shooting wildlife, then went out to a travel agent to put together quotes to send off to the people that were going to fly me out and coach in Namibia in January... obviously my optimism was an affront to some deity.

I'm not a religious or spiritual person, but I don't know if I dare publish plans in time for the universe to rally against them. Since I had no plans on flying to/through Antarctica in 2022, I guess that one is safe from the curse and the penguins don't have to worry about flights being restricted.

MrsK and I have bitten the bullet on a couple of flights in 2022. The first being the first week in January from Canberra to Melbourne to catch up with family - not to stressed about that one. The second is to Perth at the end of July for a week and a half. That should sort-of be ok.....

We are holding on to our March 2022 visit to the UK. MrsOatek had her booster yesterday, seeing as how her GP had a few about to expire (so 2 x AZ, 1 x PZ). I will be seeking a booster in the next 4 weeks or so.

I understand travellers like @MARTINE baulking at taking off in May given the latest round of uncertainty. But in our case we are off to visit daughter and attend granddaughter's 10th birthday celebrations so will push on.

I understand travellers like @MARTINE baulking at taking off in May given the latest round of uncertainty. But in our case we are off to visit daughter and attend granddaughter's 10th birthday celebrations so will push on.

I don't see any issues with that, AU is more likely to be the spanner in the works.

The UK won't put any restrictions on Australians, as Aus is a *much* lower risk location. Alas, by the same logic, the reverse of that, going from UK to Aus, is more likely be face restrictions. I doubt they will completely lock down travel for Aussie citizens again at the federal level, at least for an extended length of time, but unless Omicron turns out to be a flash in the pan thing (which given everything that's happened so far, I would *not* bet on) I would make the assumption of having to jump through some hoops, prob negative test before flying, then maybe a short 3 day quarantine and another negative test when you get back. It might be wise to plan for a "reasonable worst-case" scenario, and keep aside funds and an empty diary when you get back, enough to cover a 14-day hotel quarantine, just in case. Prob won't come to that, but at least then all your bases are covered and you won't get any nasty suprises, and if it doesn't you can put the points and cash toward a nice lil domestic jaunt

Yep, exactly. Getting back into Aus, though... could be harder. The UK isn't really doing anything meaningful to reign in Omicron, so given the very high case rates in the UK, it may well lead Australia to restore some quarantine rules for AU citizens arriving *from* the UK. No certainty as usual but personally I'd be surprised if Canberra doesn't tighten up things further for people arriving from Europe - prob not as much as they have for southern Africa, but a 2-3 day quarantine on arrival pending a second negative test seems pretty likely to me.

Not doing anything meaningful? Hm, well .. mask mandate back in, PCR/LFT test required to fly into the country, mandatory quarantine until the results of the Day 2 (must be PCR) test arrive in. What would you consider meaningful?
