With 2 young kids in tow we will be off to Cairns=>Mission Beach=>Townsville+Maggie come Sept 2022. Sept school hols seems to be in hot demand! Made sure all was 100% cancellable. Biggest pain was the car hire. There are some astronomical rates out there!
This will be the 4th time we have booked a trip to Magnetic Island in the last 2 yrs, hopefully this one goes ahead. 🤞
I will leave the overseas travel to work and see what happens
Really glad to see Qantas has maintained the direct SYD-TSV E190 direct flights that they previously attempted to launch.

We were determined to go international over the Christmas/NYE period, no matter what - so last month we watched prices like a hawk for over a week before scoring an excellent fare to Heathrow.

However, as has been my luck since late 2019, COVID has once again thrown a spike protein into the works. Every time I book a flight, one of my origin or destination goes into lockdown (or in the last two instances, both). So I was hardly surprised when Omicron decided to show up and throw our last-minute Euro trip into jeopardy.

Really hoping the UK and France hold firm and don't go any further with lockdowns etc, and that our own dear leaders don't panic and shut the borders whilst we're in London and Paris getting swabs stuck up our noses every three days.

Getting tests in France is a doddle, lots of pharmacies do them. We walked in the morning and registered there and then, with the test done shortly after. €25 for our antigen test and results came via SMS and email shortly after.

Our New Zealand cycling trip in January is off. Air New Zealand cancelled our flights and Jacinda won't let us in. So we can't get into NZ until May 22. But alas that is too late in the season for the cycling tour. It is a group thing with friends, so now they are looking at March 23! Goodness that seems so far away!

I just love the way this is all playing out. Now, if the various states were to open up, I wouldn't be able to take the caravan all that far, because my tow vehicle uses Adblue, and the source of the feed stock is our old mate, China.

That's what you get for buying a new Kenworth to tow the van JB 🤪

Woke up this morning to find emails letting us know our flights to CHC in mid Feb have been cancelled and credit issues. It was my one DSC flight, J return :( I’ve emailed Kit Campers and cancelled our camper hire.

Now to plan somewhere else. Maybe Tassie again

That's a relief - I've seen all sorts of confusion in recent weeks with the app, and then sending all overseas people to pharmacies for some vaccine-related paperwork, and new testing requirements for the latest variant.

Bloody cheap for a test too; was there an isolation requirement associated with each test?

At this rate, the corner shop will be our most plausible domestic destination this Christmas.

Fiji might be a safer bet than Tassie, tbh...

No, it's just a standard antigen test. It's the fit to fly test required before the airline will let you on the phone. It was never checked...... but I wouldn't risk not doing it obviously!

Bit the proverbial bullet last night and booked Tassie for the two weeks we would have been in NZ, a long weekend in Sydney over last weekend of April (to really tempt fate) and then used the credit with DSC to rebook NZ for Sept. $899 return for J!

The only destination I have planned is Port Macquarie in early April and that is likely to be driving and not flying.

I would like to visit Victoria next year but that might be a last minute decision because I don't want to book something and then have to cancel.
