2024 Paris Olympics

"Meanwhile, the food options available — widely reported to be dominated by a vegan diet — are so bad that even the British team has brought its own chef."

The Oz has picked up on this too. An article by James Magnussen (ret Oz swimmer)

From our sample size thus far, this Olympics is showing that it may be one of the toughest environments we’ve seen to produce world record swims.

The lack of world records boils down to this whole eco-friendly, carbon footprint, vegan-first mentality rather than high performance.

They had a charter that said 60 per cent of food in the village had to be vegan friendly and the day before the opening ceremony they ran out of meat and dairy options in the village because they hadn’t anticipated so many athletes would be choosing the meat and dairy options over the vegan friendly ones.

The caterer had to rejig their numbers and bring in more of those products because surprise, surprise — world class athletes don’t have vegan diets.

Obviously French cultural activities don't extend to the cooking! :)

As with other Olympics, the AU contingent included a chef? and i think 3 baristas
They also took thousands of 4n20 pies, the obligatory weetbix, vegemite, Milo, and i understand they will have Taco Tuesdays so are also shipping some Salsa. Im sure there are other items. Should have been performance enhancing Herbert Adams pies IMO

Dont have to bust a gut training to get to the Olympics - just be a Barista - they even get to march in the ceremonies.

Japan media today reporting that they topping the gold medal tally. Same number of gold as Australia but one medal overall than Australia.
Yep. Thats the way the table is worked. It will change if not already.

But the French love butter....

And cream! Exactly. And now, lambchop-gate

Magnussen also revealed an Australian weightlifter had complained about the food portions available in the Olympic Village.

“I joked last night about the amount of vegan options in the Village, that they’re running out of meat,” Magnussen continued.

“Well, an Australian heavyweight boxer has come out. He wanted lamb chops, maximum two chops per person. The guy’s six foot six.

Johns joked: “He’s come here as a heavyweight, he’ll go home as a middleweight.”

Had the misfortune to tune into Olympics after the F1 last night to find Skateboarding. While there is some skill, seems silly to me to have this as an Olympic event, particularly for 14 yos and under. And tell me why several of the competitors did not wear helmets, or were not enforced to wear helmets, then hit their heads on the concrete after they fell of the rails, which most did fall off.

Yeah I thought the no-helmet thing a little odd as well....

Forget the helmets, I couldn't understand why the event was in the olympics.

Possibly:

IOC/host city ----> Want $$$.
So sell TV rights for most $$$
Rights buyer needs to maximise advertising
So IOC/host city include sports that appeal to a demographic not or weakly covered
TV rights revenue maximised by selling more ads for Red Bull, sandshoes, burgers and stuff

So the kiddies get to perform.

Amazing they can effectively monetise something so C.R.A.P.

Talk of fewer records being broken in the pool because of the woke veggie diet the French are supplying. The French swimmer Marchand is not off his times making me think he knew ahead of time the diet would be poor.
To quote CNNNN, hmmmmmm.

The IOC has an existential crisis with ratings for the NBC coverage dropping by almost half for Tokyo. There’s pressure to appeal to the TikTok crowd who don’t do linear sport broadcasting. Adding new sports such as Skateboarding, Surfing and Sport Climbing is an attempt to keep the program relevant. Modern Pentathlon has a limited appeal to anyone born after about 1900.
