Some trivia - did you know the majority of Boston is built on reclaimed land.

This image details the extent of filling since Boston was founded in 1630

This article has a cool little video detailing the filling over the last couple of centuries....

Boston’s Made Land

I studied US history at Uni. And I loved Boston. We must go back. All my history lectures became real. I spent so much time in a Cemetery finding graves of US history makers.

Day 2 - Boston

Massachusetts State House

Directly opposite the State House is the Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Memorial - The first African American regiment formed in the North. They fought in the Civil War

That State House was built over 3 years and completed in 1798.

The house of Reps Chamber - they have a Sacred Cod hanging in the chamber as a memorial of the importance of the Cod industry to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Ever wondered where the term Gerrymandering comes from!

Meet Gov Elbridge Gerry. In 1812 Elbridge created a partisan district in the shape of a mythological salamander. Gerrymander is his legacy!

Pretty good view from the balcony. We also saw the Senate Chamber.

Unbelievable access for a couple of tourists that just rocked on in! All free, no queues, no security other than a bag check at the front door.

Definitely worth a look when in Boston.

A short walk from the State House is Kings Chapel. First built in 1686, and was the first Anglican Church in New England.

The current building was built in 1749, after the Revolution it changed to a Unitarian Church, the first in the United States. Interesting history!

I’ve seen lots of Churches, but never any with private boxes - first for me.

Really enjoying the great photos. You were probably aware that Shaw and this regiment were the subjects of the excellent film "Glory" in 1989 - Denzel Washinghton won a "Best Supporting Actor Oscar" for his role in the film.

Old State House - built 1713, was the seat of Gov until the new SH was built in 1798.

Scene of the Boston massacre, Declaration of Independence was proclaimed here, and is the oldest surviving public building in Boston.

Still looking good.

A block or two away from the BPL is the Skywalk Observatory, it's located in the Prudential Centre building. Given it was such a nice day - we thought why not.

Cracking views...

For dinner we selected Island Creek Oyster Bar. No complaints on the oysters, we had 4 different varieties - superb!

However, they butchered the fish. Don't come to an oyster bar and order the fish....

Day 3 - Boston Nantucket

One of those last minute impulsive decisions - they are the best ones! Over drinks the night before mrsamaroo saw an advertisement for a day trip to Martha's Vineyard. We spoke to the concierge who suggested Nantucket would be a better alternative.... after a 5 min chat he promised to make all arrangements and we went out for dinner.

The next morning we headed to BOS for our Cessna 402, Cape Air flight to Nantucket!
