Assuming that the amendment to sales act goes through. What about the possibilty of the other OW founding members buying in. IAG and AA taking a 50% stake in QF would certainly bind them to OW and provide certainty. Not sure that AA and IAG have the cash to pony up for this but worth a thought.

I figured AA myself, but then I don't know anything.

Ironic given QF were offered a 50/50 joint venture with BA in a merger in 2008, but Joyce said no and now the airline is a minnow.
 
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but why was this article put in todays' paper when the writers trip to DXB was a few months ago.

Soften the blow from yesterday?? Put some good news back on the table? Hmmm...:confused:

Ah yes - the "incurious mail". In other breaking news - Pleasant puff piece written by journalist whom travelled and stayed for free in nice place!

Although with the amount of stock photos from other sources there isn't any actual evidence that Kate Schneider saw anything in DXB except for the fancy bathroom in the Atlantis Hotel....

If Jetstar's EBIT for FY2013 was $138m - pretty healthy, yes? - why did Jetstar Japan need to request QF to bail it out to the tune of $50-60m in October 2013, and not fund it's own bail-out?

In fact the photo credited as a Dubai Mosque looks like the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in AUH![h=1][/h]

Thank you for your note regarding the QFF program

I appreciate the reassurances.

Let me say that I have been a loyal QFF for a number of years – I fly exclusively with Qantas domestically and whenever/wherever I can internationally.

The problem for me is that the “Wherevers” are becoming more and more difficult.

As I live in that remote country town commonly known as Perth, you will be no doubt aware that we lost QF68/9 to HKG last year. As I travel to China (mainly to Shanghai, sometimes Beijing) on a regular basis, this was my preferred option.

When we lost the HKG connection, I tried the QF SNG connection with China Eastern code share to PVG – probably the worst flight of my life. And now I learn that this option will be gone shortly anyway.

I am now left with Cathay, who do a fine job, but they are not MY airline!!!

My other option is to fly to the East Coast and go to PVG from there – that would increase my fare by about 30% and the time taken by 50%. Thank you, but no thanks.

As to you new initiatives –

Acquire – We have looked at this and need to be convinced that this will be of benefit to our (small) business

Qantascash – I have endeavoured three times to get this up and running on line. When I ring the help number – no-one there. I am not unintelligent, but cannot make this one work. Have given up trying through frustration.

Qantas HK Lounge Opening March 2014 – refer above – I cannot fly to HKG with Qantas!!!

Epicure – I tried that for a couple of years but found it didn’t offer me good value. Nice try though.

Historically, I have never had a response from the 1 or 2 notes I have written, so will not be holding my breath this time.

According to the Qantas sauce, -OEI and -OQI were involved... I guess there may be two 744's that may not be retired so quick..
 
but down one 388 for possibly some months might need a 4-class 744 to fill in? or do Q have enough 388's to spare?

Edit:somehow a post from serfty disappeared before mine so the above may not make proper sense...

As I understand it there is normally one spare as the 12 A388s must travel daily MEL- DXB - LHR or MEL - LAX and return; same for SYD but with the addition of some SYD - HKG and return flights.

The problem now is of course with no spare A388s, any unplanned maintenance due to a failure of another A388 will mean a 744 has to be brought in at short notice.

One assumes that on the busier days of the week or during peak periods such as school holidays and Easter, some booked passengers may now not have a seat given the difference in seating capacity.

If memory serves me well, a QF 744 (four class configuration) has 353 seats while a QF A388 (all of which of the latter are now standardised) is 484 seats, so it is a significant difference. This may not matter on say a Tuesday in the Australian mid winter ex LAX to MEL, but there are many times when I have been at MEL and observed QF93 departing with 360 plus passengers, often 400 or more.
 
Isn't that 'additional' to the base pay? Considering free accommodation etc etc, I think it's not too bad. No Unions either :)
They don't start getting paid until the plane pushes back from the gate, so if there are any delays they are working for nothing. Sound like they need a union.
