27th February Big Qantas announcement

Wikipedia (great source) suggests terminal C (newest) can handle widebodies (but only mentions A330).

Plus given the new airport was meant to open two years ago I suspect they wouldn't have bothered.

My guess is that the A380 operating QF9 will terminate in DXB. QF will base a few A330s or maybe 777s in Dubai under a Jetconnect-style arrangement. One of these will continue QF9 to LHR and others will fly to TXL/BER, CDG or perhaps elsewhere, connecting to QF1/9 & 2/10. These A330s/777s could even fly to Australia, e.g. PER, BNE. Reduced costs for QF if their flights between DXB and oz have DXB-based crew. Heck, they could even have A380 crew based in DXB.

What about collapsing the syd-mel route into two/three flight movements per hour using A380s - save costs all around??? You could even move DXB-Syd-Mel in the mornings, and turn them around in the afternoon.... and same mel-syd

Reading most of this thread I am really meh.

Unless Qantas expands QFi or buy new planes, the announcement will be another disappointed.

Happy to be proven totally wrong, but this is a speculative thread, so...

I've been in 1x my last several flights, a couple international, mostly domestic. I jump up like a madman once the seatbelt sign goes off due to a bad back. Get to hear quite a bit that way, too.

Staff conversations have been about wages, conditions, allowances (for language ability etc.) more than I've ever heard before.

I also see little chance of staff caring at all about QFF-related changes, future orders, or the like.

So my guess would be is that if some "big announcement" is really coming, it will be labour-related, whether that be a merger, job cuts, or otherwise.

The above notwithstanding, I don't think that if a big change were really coming, that flight staff or phone staff would really know.

Rumours can be quick to spread among any group of people... as we at AFF have proven.

Well this is good news. I've been hoping QF would start to treat me a little more specially but I never thought QFi would be aware of and planning for my birthday! Feb 27 will be special this year.

Does QF ever enhance anything anyway, I mean their marketers can spin things really well, much better than the King of Spin Shane Warne's bowling ;) :D

QFi is offloaded to JQi
QFd stays as is
QFFP gets devalued in the sense that all awards are increased by 20%

The above is very unlikely but it will head in that direction.........

I don't think the AFF Servers would be able to handle the resulting thread!

Unless it wanted to compete with FRA as a German hub.

No way. BER has little business and lots of governments.

One of the reason for the cancellation of the FRA flight was, that LH pulled off the interlining agreement with QF - after the EK deal. LH management really hates EK - so it was a bit of childish reaction.

QF may think about DUS: Second AB hub - but AB is partially owned by EY, they have agreements with DJ! So I see no point in getting those together!

Maybe MUC? Again without AB or LH it does not make sense. So with the EK/QF Alliance they serve four airports in Germany with codeshares - and the rest with codeshares via LHR.

Maybe they could put a smaller plane (330, 787) to DXB and do a BER-DXB with QF/EK code. Even STR could be done with a smaller plane. That REALLY would hurt b$%dy LH!

In Germany, if not Europe, FRA is the best destination for pax going onwards towards other destinations in Europe as FRA has so many connections. Most pax would not be using AB/LH for their last leg and those going towards a final city in Germany could easily use the train and get a cheap train ticket.
