40,000 QFF points for $74?

I congratulate you all who have achieved 40k points for a mere $70. I know that this game was fair and maybe deserved plundering. Those points would cost me as a flyer several thousand dollars to earn. But can you all now go to a thread that complains about the erosion of the value of QFF membership and "points devaluation", and skite there :)

I understand your point (no pun intended) but how is this any different to churning credit cards, where one can obtain 120k points for ~$300?

My guess is Qantas would be receiving significantly more than $74 for the 40k points on offer here.

I do suspect that a product manager somewhere gets their wings clipped and their budget shredded every time one of these deals gets plundered. Then I see some coming back for more (bankwest being a good example) and I wonder if there really is anybody out there.

@juddles I 100% agree with your post. Most of these posters will never get to redeem a single J flight without having P1 or WP status, just my thoughts.

I had never thought of it from that perspective, but I agree. Or the upgrades will be succesfully attained by exhaustive selection of off-peak flights, which doesn't really affect anyone too much.

I am always torn on this subject. Each to their own, but my personal situation is that I earn 90% + of my points strictly through flying, and as a "road warrior" I can get sensations of being peeved that my "hard-earned" status and lounge access/upgrades/redemptions are cheapened by those that "scam" points through other means.

But I also understand and respect those that do the hard yards to find loopholes and deals with which to creatively gain points.

At the end of the day it is QF that guides and permits all this. Something like this Vodaphone deal must be worth a fair bit to QF. Sites like this give the airline ample opportunity to monitor the "enthusiasts" which find such opportunities, yet they (QF) still lets them roll. So it must still be good for them, as a business.

When I lodged I received a confirmation email that included the following

So I'd hold off for 30 days based on that.

This was good advice. 40,000 posted yesterday from an Xmas Eve claim. So things were just a bit slower because of my timing.

Totally understand how you feel but Qantas get’s a lot of business from me that is almost entirely due to its frequent flier program. Without the perks i would just go cheapest of the day.

QF is a business and QFF consistenly out-performs the rest of the business in term of yield and until recently even in nominal profit terms. Selling points is the only reliable income source - flight revenue is very cyclical.

Also - the “scams” are available to you to. :)

What???

I've redeemed points/miles for dozens of J flights across various airlines and in almost none of them have I had any status at all???

Curious: has anyone sold their Vodafone Smart E9 yet on eBay or Gumtree?

Wondering what to ask for. Is $50 reasonable?

Dream on Matt_01.

I wonder if I'll remember your comment while I'm sipping Dom Perignon in Emirates F next week. Part of the reason AFF exists is to inform others how best to earn/spend points.

My guess would be most here are not redeeming for toasters

I cancelled today, after keeping the phone a little longer to use as a tethering point. Was quoted an exit fee of $90.75 for the handset, which doesn't bother me. It's not $99 nor is it $74.

Sounds like that's full price minus one month's repayment. Strange.

it would only be $74 if you applied the exit pop-up coupon discount of $25 off the $99 at the checkout. I forgot to do that.

I think you when you signed up and you’re in the shopping cart stage during the checkout, you had to hover your computer mouse outside of the browser (as if you are closing the window) to trigger an automated $25 off coupon code. That’s how they got the $99 phone down to $74 in the original post.

I did that. Have screenshot proof. I think their systems are just odd. From reading this thread there’s been a few different results.

Totally bizarre. Who knows, but I agree, it was still an amazing deal and such an easy 40K!

Called to cancel yesterday. Was quoted $99 to pay out the handset so I asked about the $25 credit - they claimed they couldn't see it.

Told them to cancel anyway and send me a bill, and if the $25 doesn't show up I'll take it up with billing. My confirmation email definitely shows a "$25 bonus credit as a one-time credit on your bill" with no asterisks/attached T&C.
