40,000 QFF points for $74?

This is all stated in their terms so not something that can be disputed either. Some may get lucky - but then with the hordes that have applied for this, that's also less likely given the cost of having to give this out to so many.
So that essentially makes the offer 40,000 points for $234 which is a totally different proposition.
 
Hmmm, that is indeed a concern.

The relevant section is pasted just below and my objective reading is now that the cost of this deal will be one of the following:

a) $154 if contract cancelled inside 1 month of purchase, OR
b) $234 if contract cancelled inside 1-2 months of purchase, OR
c) $154 if contract cancelled inside 3-4 months of purchase

As, I believe that the forfeit if cancelled clause applies if cancellation occurs during that 2 month period, but not after. Best case scenario being 'a' .

Is that what “forfeited if you cancel” means? That they will charge you for the two months you got free? If you cancel when? If you cancel 2 years later will they come back and charge you for that two months? Wouldn’t think so. Wouldn’t they need to specify a period of time that you can not cancel for that to be true? Eg “forfeited if you cancel within 6 months”.

I think it simply means that if you cancel within this two months you have forfeited any rights to the free period of network coverage.
 
You're right that it's a month to month contract so can cancel.

However, what most have missed is that their calculation is based on getting the first 2 months free. However, the terms of this offer say that it only applies if you do not cancel. While the poster then checked with a 10 month scenario - close to the 12 month handset term anyway - that's vastly different from cancelling 2 months in not having paid anything at all for the usage - and the points. I'd expect Vodafone to apply their terms there and not give the 2 months free if you cancel in two months i.e. the plan cost would then be $160 + 74, so $234 for the two months and 40k points.

All offers are forfieted if you cancel - the very nature of receiving an offer requires a transaction. This is a month to month contract, cancelling one month can’t recalculate the costs of past completed months.

All that means is once you cancel you’ve lost the right to the ongoing offer of 2 free months. Bit like Telstra’s mobile repayment credits that make the phone cheaper, if you cancel you don’t get the credit for the outstanding balance but you don’t have to pay back all the credits you’ve received in the past!
 
Applied for this deal last night and got conditionally approved....then this morning an email arrived confirming that I am not eligible for the deal. They want me to sign up for the 12 month SIM ppan instead! No thank you.
Gave Vodafone a ring as well but they won't budge... Apparently my credit check failed. Might give it another go later for my wife.

Same here. They must be tough on the credit checks.

Whilst we will have to wait and see I absolutely agree here. The chat log that was posted on the PH website is not nearly proof of anything, whilst the operator has suggested they'll waive their right to enforce the T&Cs, the author put forward a scenario that neither references in any way the fact that the author was cancelling directly after receiving the points nor did it accurately reflect the amount of time between ordering and cancelling. Whatever anyone feels about this deal it would have to be agreed that Voda are well within their rights to enforce that written term and if they do, you'd have to be prepared to wear it.

My credit score is just "good" - in the 700-800 range according to Equifax. Instant approval.
Mine is 'Very Good' according to Equifax so I was surprised that I got rejected! Have you been a customer of Vodafone before? This is the first time I have signed up to any of their products.

In my book it's a deal, but ultimately it depends how you'll use the 40k points.
