Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

Wearing a SQ hat, I would call it being prudent.

Ha, prudent to me means thinking of the risks (what could go wrong) before you run a promo! But yes, I'd be stopping everything too if I was in this position until a solution is found. I personally don't think they will be clawing back miles, it after all was not against the T&Cs to transfer, indeed they have just recently set up this facility so can hardly claim they did not know about the possibility this might happen (even if they clearly underestimated how many people would do so).

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

well I'm just glad most of us got in before the lock.

Thank you Singapore airlines.
And thank you VA for your generous pooling and transferring policies.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

I signed up 3 of my household yesterday afternoon and managed to link accounts. However no KF points have been posted overnight. Looks like SQ has stopped enrolments, linking and deposit of miles for now.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

Just signed in to convert a friends points into her VA account...nothing posted as well for SQ.

looks like it is dead Jim.

sad face indeed.

I've got a few UA flights coming up so at least I now have somewhere to credit them. Then a tranfer to VA later...

If you have your KF 5k but can't link your KF to your VA to transfer, link your VA to your KF in your VA account

Thanks for that - good thinking 99 hahaha!

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

Read the few posts above yours....promo is now dead apparently:(
That's a shame. I was a bit slow off the mark. Was going to try last night but would have been too late anyway.

I was actually going to try to earn KrisFlyer miles in those accounts as KrisFlyer miles are much more valuable than Velocity points for me.

Anyway one less headache now.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

What SQ should have done is allowing family transfer, but limit the eligible family member. (Perhaps only those nominees in the account.) Then there will be much less people converting miles to VA as we all know KF miles are more valuable. That would limit to 25000 bonus miles per family, not enough to get any good redemption, but good enough to make people want to earn a bit more KF miles to make it useful.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

can someone explain to me who actually pays for the SQ points that go to VA.....is it VA or SQ or a combination of both or are they just free.

I have been thinking they are kind of like bitcoins...tradeable between FF programs...or have I misunderstood the whole thing?

So after this promo, who actually is the loser???

Not sure I agree with this, my wife just booked a one way LHR - SYD for 40.7K (plus just over $500 in tax) in June, she booked the SYD to LHR leg on Qantas (actually Emirates) for 64K. With returns to London on a decent airline ~ 2300-2400 this was good value IMO (not as good as J of course but no savers available so would have required 120K).

Am pretty sure 25K points will get you one way (just over 20K I think) to or from South East Asia. That has to be valuable to some.

25k will get you one way economy to Asia. The tax and YQ will cost you $300-400. A return SQ ticket on sale to SE Asia frequently go below $800. Why would anyone use miles for these? Don't forget you still need to fork out extra the return leg and it won't be $300-400.

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

Are there any other ways to pull the points out other than initiate the transfer from SQ to VA? Another 3704 points would be nice :)

SQ will be paying. Not VA.

VA will get a free ride in this for any points sent to them.

SQ will be the loser for any account that just flicks to points on the VA. (suspect this will be the vast majority as was on Ozbargain, and most of their readership would be much more likely to be VA users than SQ).

SQ will be the winner for any that just stay with SQ (this is why they were running the promo) and use the points there (suspect this will be very few)

Re: 5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,703 Velocity Frequent Flyer Poi

What SQ should have done is allowing family transfer,l.

From a business perspective = No. SQ wants new adult members. Not to give away very cheap or free flights.
Froma points runners perspective = Yes

Don't get me wrong...I love loopholes too. BMI was very lucrative for joining up family members and then pooling there joining bonii and various "questionarres". My wife and I without ever spending a cent at BMI flew around Europe Business Class and had 4 nights at a London Hotel worth 800 Pounds all courtesy of it. It was great while it lasted but probably was one of the reasons why BMI sunk.
