Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Ah, fair enough. I'm new to all this AA stuff.

The zip code thing is actually quite funny when you ring up. I have no idea how their system allows them to enter the address given.
It's definitely worth it for CX J/ F though :)

I ALWAYS remember a nice postcode that was a TV shows in the 90s.... 90210 anyone? ;-) Of course your suburb would be Beverley Hills. One can dream... :-)

Im working my way up to it. First international J flight in May :D

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I have to say a couple of months ago I had an issue was trying to book a First AAward Seat JFK-LHR on BA.

I had purchased the miles and booked the flight however it never ticketed and then about 7 days later I got an error email that the payment wouldn't go through.

So rang the Australian number and went through to the Mexican? help desk and then they were hopeless but they put me through to the AAwards desk.

I have to say I have never ever had service as exemplary as the service I was given. Now eventually after the service agent contacted their help desk, manager, supervisor etc we found out it was all to do with the way the address was formatted and the post code.

I was on the phone for quite a while but the agent I dealt with was amazingly good and had it sorted quickly, my mate had also booked this flight and he rang up and I had been told to tell him what to say and it was rectified in about 5 minutes for him.

But the agent was amazing in terms of her service and trying to rectify the problem and was personally making it her thing during the day to keep an eye on the reservation and ensure it ticketed correctly.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Booked and ticketed this last night. Apart from an initial problem with using a Australian CC (a little 0 after my postcode transported me to Rayle, Georgia and fixed the problem) the entire process was really easy and the call centre staff were super friendly and helpful. I'm very used to using US and AV miles for redemptions like this - in comparison AA is definitely more expensive to buy miles through but I am getting sick of doing every trip on TG J! OW does seem to have slightly more premium carriers than *A though.

Looking forward to finally experiencing all these HKG OW lounges I've heard so much about and also the MH satay!

How do I do seat selection on CX and MH with an AA redemption? Do I need to call CX and MH? Both cx.com and check my trip arent recognising my AA PNR/record locator.

Call AA and ask for the Amadeus record locator. That will get you in to CX MMB. Not sure about MH.

The Amadeus PNR usually shows up the top when you view your booking on AA.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi I am fairly new to AA too though with the help of OzBeachBabe last year did a status run from HNL-SJU return.
My question is that we both have AA accounts, mine with a 0 balance and my husbands with 1000 miles, which I think would expire soon. We did not jump in when there were bonus miles on offer which I now regret but not enough $$ at the time. There is another offer now but again probably could not justify spending as I think you need to purchase 20,000 miles. Just wondering whether I should buy some miles now for each account that I can afford, perahps a few thousand every few months and then wait for an offer ( if they come up again). or not worry and save some $$ and just buy when a better bonus offer comes along.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Strange

My AA routing is no longer listed in my AA account but is readily available when I look it up using the AA Record Locator.

Somehow, it lost the "attachment" to my account.

Have not seen this before.

Has anyone else been affected ?

FWIW, I used QFF for this trip (as I always do).

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Rather than having to ring AAdvantage try tweeting @Americanair - they have always been terrific for me and others I know. I am sure they will look up your booking reference for you.

When I did a MH redemption I could never get the MH website to let me assign seats and had to ring them to do it. J assignments are free with MH but believe they charge for economy.

Dale.

You do not have to buy miles as nothing to lose.Your husband could just buy 1000 miles.
However if you have a Hilton or SPG account transferring points would work.Same with Diners club.Amex you have to transfer via SPG.
Avis rentals can earn AA miles.or staying at some hotels can earn AA miles-just go to their website and look up hotel partners.
Only need activity every 18 months to keep your miles.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi,

I currently have an AA award for HBA-MEL-KUL-HKT and want to change to HBA-SYD-BKK and then purchase a flight to HKT separately.

Doing this because my wife and I don't want to fly with MH anymore - please don't turn this thread into a discussion of their safety.

I am wondering if I will have to pay a change fee or because still terminating in the same country that will be allowed to change carriers without a fee?

My preference would be CX via HKG and then Dragon Air to HKT but nothing available at the moment.

Thanks,
Dale.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If you change the origin or destination (regardless of being in the same region) I think you will be stuck with the change fee. Any other routes from MEL-HKT that you can handle?
