Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

When you log into your account you can print a copy of your current card which will show your platinum status - should do fine for faxing/email.

Thanks

What part of the account ?

I could not seem to find it at all - even in AAdvantage Account section after I log in.

Thanks

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I have an F award on a CX 744 (HKG-SFO) for late September, shortly before CX stop their US 747 services in October and replace them with 777s (some 3 class configs without F cabins, but a lot still have an F service).
It is the one mentioned in this thread:

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ntage/150-change-fee-when-changing-55311.html

Prior to this afternoon, it was HKG-SFO-LAX-SAN with the dom sectors on AA. F all the way through.
I get an email saying I need to contact AA because there has been a change in my booking.

Turns out the CX 747 service is being cut short earlier than planned and my flight is now operated by a 777 with no F cabin.
I ring up and talk about the alternatives, there is a HKG-LAX with an F cabin at a comparable time that gives me plenty of time to connect to the same LAX-SAN leg.

The problem is that it cannot be ticketed over the phone because travel does not originate in the US. Huh?!!!!

I get told I need to ring the HK desk and I have 7 days to do it (the new itinerary has been held but not ticketed).
I tell them that the original ticket and subsequent change was all done over the phone (had to be due to CX not being available online).
Funnily enough, I checked BA.com prior to calling and could not find any F availability on that day on any route.

Has anyone experienced this before??? I'll ring in 3-4 days when it is not as busy - with the HUACA method at my disposal.

This is total rubbish, HUACA

An update:

I called again on another day.
Again, was told that it couldn't be ticketed with the "travel originating outside the US" reason (huh?!!) and also because there was supposed to be a $2.50 refund to my card.
The agent suggested I forfeit the $2.50 and she process it as a "schedule change".
That worked and I've received the ticket in my inbox.

Usually a few weeks to a month. Might be a bit longer for you since you're in OZ.

If you need the card in the meantime for lounge access then just install the AAdvantage app onto your phone. It will display a picture of your AAdvantage card with the OW Emerald logo.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I found this comment below (#20 on the page) with an interesting exception to the rules:

Getting the Most Out of an American Airlines Award: Ultimate Guide to AAdvantage Rules - View from the Wing - View from the Wing

3) While American does generally charge a change fee for changes to origin or destination, there is an exception for dropping initial or terminal changes if the country of origin and country of destination do not change and the award type does not change. Thus, I was able to successfully drop the OMA-DFW-LGA portion of the award (making it JFK-HKG-BKK) I’ve been discussing after I moved out of Nebraska before beginning travel.

Has anyone done this successfully before?

Is it possible to book a fare in a specific fare bucket? When I go to the website I'm only getting fares (on a particular routing) returned in N but I'd like to beef it up to the net fare level so that it earns 1.0 AA points. The results page has only N and the next column is Business; there's nothing in between.

I'm guessing only through an agent.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thought this information might help some travelling in the USA on how to get a different stopover:

AA Stopover In A "Non-Gateway City" - Canadian Kilometers - Canadian Kilometers

Dale.

Thanks, good find. Cliffnotes for those wondering: a stopover is allowed at the non-gateway city if that connecting domestic flight has the same flight number as the international segment (and considered "direct"). My guess is that this would mainly apply to flights on AA metal - haven't checked any partner carriers.

Yep - exactly.

Only relevant for routes that are operated by AA.

So for example SFO-LAX-BNE/SYD/MEL will not work.

It is my understanding that if using the USA website and you place the reservation on hold, a call to web services will permit a change to a higher fare class (and price). I have not tried this option. YMMV

Happy wandering

For Asian/SWP partners, I am aware of a CX flight that goes from HKG-YVR-JFK and vice versa on the same flight number, so that could be of help when availability on the non-stop HKG-JFK is an issue. Maybe JAL has something similar?

Don't know about the European carriers - would definitely be interested to know of transatlantic options.

A stopover in YVR is allowed on any of those CX flights as it is the gateway city.

That's what I have read on FT as well. Book N class and hold, call web services to up fare, then complete and pay for the booking online.
