A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Yes the RDM is nice, but you still need EQM or EQP to retain status with lounge access. Well, I do. And flying is limited...

There are 3 and 4 continent fares (Europe, Asia, SWP and Africa) but the xONEx fares are priced similarly, so I have ignored them historically. And there are enough places in Asia to obtain relatively inexpensive point to point fares to Europe or the USA that I have ignored the xONEx recently. Maybe one more go before I hang up the noise cancelling headphones in a few years.

HKG does seem to be the place for Circle Pacific fares.

Happy wandering

But in this case with codeshare agreements, EQM and EQP will still be earned (and for an elite you will be subject to the 500 mile minimum EQM)??

With your point to point strategy, are you booking an Asia-USA (or Europe) return, then an Asia-SWP return with the final SWP-Asia far out in advance in ready for your next trip?

I forgot I did ask AA and got this favourable reply:

Dear Kangol,

First, on behalf of all of us here at AAdvantage® Customer Service,
thank you for being one of our valued AAdvantage Platinum® members.

Codeshare relationships exist so that customers have the convenience of
booking travel on one carrier to destinations that it does not serve, by
traveling on flights operated by the codeshare carrier. For example, you
anticipate purchasing your travel from Qantas Airlines (the Marketing
Carrier) for a flight. Since the Marketing Carrier does not serve this
location, it purchases space from Brindabella Airlines, the Operating
Carrier, and you will physically fly on the Operating Carrier to your
destination.

In terms of earning AAdvantage mileage, the rules that govern mileage
accrual on the Marketing Carrier dictate whether or not miles are
earned. Based on the specifics you provided, I can tell you that Qantas
Airways codeshare flights on Brindabella Airlines are eligible for
AAdvantage mileage accrual, provided they are booked in an eligible
inventory. I hope this information helps answer your question.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond. We look forward to
serving you in the future.

Regards,

xx_ xx_

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Have recently become AAplat & I am looking for suggestions on how to make best use of it & how to requalify more easily ? .
If I do a flight LAS - MCO & the routing is thru MIA , do I get the 500 miles minimum as an elite for the MIA - MCO leg ,or is this classed as a direct flight & treated as a single segment ?.
Thanks in advance to all the "guru's" .

Same flight number and booking on ticket showing as LAS-MCO the as for LAS-MCO.

IF different flight numbers then LAS-MIA and MIA-MCO.

I think what Serfy was saying was that if your LAS-MIA-MCO is on one ticket with one flight number, then it is considered a single flight (you get 500 miles for the one flight), however if your LAS-MIA-MOC is on separate tickets or on the same ticket but with different flight numbers, then they are considered two flights (you will get 2x500 miles).

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If the flight numbers are different, then yes!

Note the 500 miles minimum only comes into effect for short flights.

LAS-MIA or LAS-MCO would credit far more than 500 RDM's.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I transferred 25k SPG points to AA on the 29/10 and they have not shown up yet. The 20+5k went out of my SPG account almost immediately. Should I give them a ring, or wait a few more days? If I do ring them what is the best time?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Well I have booked, paid and have ticketed my flights home using AA miles. I cannot seem to be able to change my FF number from AA to QF on the AA website. Should I ring QF as I can see my flights under (QF) MMB, but again cannot change it online?

You'll have to ring AA and get them to change it. They'll resist but perservere and explain that you want to use your QF status to choose a better seat.

I'd suggest to ring either AA/QF and ask them for the QF PNR. Then use this on the RJ website to login and change your numbers. You can do this with other OW airlines that use Amadeus (AB, BA? not too sure now) but I have had no problems with RJ and they are my default for situations like this. You can also use RJ for changing FF numbers on a QF ticketed, QF metal and flight number itinerary, even after OLCI. Even phone numbers and email addresses can be changed.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I haven't tried it with BA before but Finnair also works well for swapping in and out FF # :)

Cool, thanks for the tip.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Six days ago I made two bookings using AA miles. One out of each of two accounts.

The second booked has had $$ and miles deducted and the first has not. I have not seen an eticket for either.

I have the Qantas PNR for both, can look them up unlike online without issue and have done seat allocations.

Is it time for another call or more appropriate to what a while longer :?:

*** For what it is worth I booked online and then rang AA Oz (Fiji) to complete payment, got through without delay and had great service from them. Only 4 of them in the office so a good chance of getting the same person again if you need to ring back.

AA Oz (Fiji) changed FF numbers for me without issue and also gave me the QF PNRs.

....
Call - I did so earlier this year when after snaffling the last Z seat an a NRT-ORD flight the booking was still not ticketed a week later. It took two calls and about 2 hours all up.

I had two bookings as well - the first ticketed within an hour.

The problem was cited as being "for some [strange] reason your CC number disappeared from the booking".

It all appears to be OK. They have no reason why the one has not been processed but they are sorting it out. :D

If you have the QF PNR, QF should be happy to change it for you over the phone. Keep in mind you will no longer see it in your AA profile but can search for it by PNR.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Does this work in reverse? If I have a QF award booking (or multiple given it was a 140K point ticket), can I change the FF to AA to use my Platinum status rather than my newbie bronze on QF? I have two AA flights and the premium seats would be appreciated. Do I contact QF or AA? Cheers for the assistance.

Yes, you can contact QF to get them to do it.
Or just get the QF PNR in MMB and use the RJ/Finnair/AB or similar site to do it yourself.
