A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

do tell us all how to get the executive platinum status challenge

Fly 66667 miles in B/Y in economy, or and fare class in W J or F (except MH apparently)
Fly 100000 miles in (typically) V class or higher economy (K class with QF, H with CX)
Fly proportionately more in discounted economy (remember some fares only credit 25%)

Sounds like a pretty fair challenge to me :mrgreen:

Happy wandering through all those miles

Finnair R class @ 1.5 EQPs. 3 returns to Europe and there's AA Exp. My upcoming trip is in August peak season and still only $1800 so approx $5400 can get you there.

If you're keen, you can do a segment run. I think LAS-PHX-LAX is a current favorite with codeshares on US. You'd get EXP for about US$3,000. This assumes you can get the cheaper flights for the 25 return journeys!

Wrong. It's just not normal.
What do you mean by "normal"??!!

AA do have EXP challenges, but you must meet certain criteria. I don't know what that criteria may be.

It's not like simply calling up and paying to undertake a GOLD or PLAT challenge as you can currently do.

http://flyerguide.com/index.php/Challenge_(AA)

There is reference on FT of the rare EXP challenge with criteria such as 25000 EQP's etc ...

Apart from the cost - this sounds hideous

Until you reach at least AA Gold (oneworld Ruby) your base miles will be 147 and your elite qualifying points will be 1.47 x 1.5. Once you reach AA Platinum (oneworld Sapphire) your elite qualifying miles becomes 500 and your elite qualifying points becomes 750. Total redeemable mileage (your points/miles to burn) would be 1000.

Can I clarify this? A while ago I was looking at this and thought that even after you have elite status with AA (say, AA Platinum) you get the minimum mileage applied to Redeemable Miles but not to your Elite Qualifying Miles or Elite Qualifying points. Therefore if you were AA Platinum and flew TMW-SYD (198 miles) in discount Y (say, O class), I thought you would get 1000 Redeemable miles but only 99 Elite Qualifying Miles and 99 Elite Qualifying Points.

Have I got this wrong? Would you actually get a minimum of 500 EQM and 500 EQP?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Out and about at the moment so cannot easily check but I believe EQP calculated on base RDM earn.

So if distance is under the 500 minimum for elites, then EQP is based on that 500 - which is for example, 250 for QF O class travel TMW/SYD.

You got it right - elite status gets you bonus on RDM, but not EQM or EQP.

"Elite Status Mileage Bonus

Gold members receive a 25% mileage bonus; Platinum and Executive Platinum members receive a mileage bonus of 100% on the base or guaranteed minimum miles for eligible flights on American Airlines, American Eagle®, American Connection®, US Airways, US Airways Express and US Airways Shuttle as well as select airline partners."

The EQM / EQP bonus applies only to cabin class, not elite status.

Serfy's recall is correct, as usual.

PS: a little off topic, if I may. Would anyone remember the correct terminology to advise the lounge agents about program #1 (OWS) on ticket but lounge access using program #2's OWE card ?

It escaped my memory but I do recall it was something like FFCV etc.... HELP please.

The DXB agents seemed clueless yesterday and I would be facing BA soon !

No, you are correct, the OP would only get 99 miles

It is the base miles (assuming that there is no cabin bonus), and everything else is added as a bonus to get to the 1000 miles for the Plat and EXP AA
as you can see from my account LHR-CDG only 216 miles are qualifying miles, the same with the million miler balance, only 216 miles have been added

It seems I've erred in my advice. I'm the first to admit I find AAdvantage earning very difficult to follow so I should have stayed out offering advice on this one.

My apologies to Jezza8888.

As a point of reference, I had a CX award flight on hold. When I phoned AA to cancel it, the seat was returned to inventory and visible immediately on QF.

But in your table, that is showing RDM, not EQM. There is no such thing as "bonus" EQM due to cabin or status.
I agree with serfty, for elites the base miles for each eligible segment are a min of 500 (if the flight is less than 500) and the EQP are calculated depending on fare class. Elites also have a 500 EQM minimum.

In a nutshell, for every segment all elites get:
Min 500 EQM
Min 625 RDM (1000 for PLT and EXP)
EQP is calculated by fare class and is calculate on a base of 500 miles for journeys shorter than 500 miles.

Guys is there a "trick" to finding CX availability in J ?
As in does it only open up X weeks before etc ?

I've been trying a fair few searches on KVS for MEL-HKG-KUL and I am seeing alot of "@" symbols.
The flight is late August whilst its not 11 months out its hardly next week.

Look forward to any feedback.
Cheers.

Too late for the early releases. The late releases start 1-2 weeks prior to dep IME.
