A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Thank you. I've fallen foul of that rule. ... And I still have four SWUs.

It is not in violation of AA's terms etc to GIVE the SWUs away:cool:

Happy wandering

Fred

PS No I do not have travel anywhere planned that would be worthwhile of an AA SWU :(

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

The page I linked to has all the information you need.

Yes, SWUs earned with a 2013 qualification need to be travelled on within the next four months.

not sure if it's been asked here before - can you redeem AAdvantage miles on Etihad (F/J) between Australia and Europe (or Middle East)?

Absolutely - very easy to do, but will require two awards for Australia to Europe (i.e. one AUS-ME and one ME-EUR)

Just a quick query to make sure I have thought of all possibilities for a trip. I want to go from HBA to HKT using Aadvantage miles in business class.

Last time I went from Syd to BKK on Qantas and then bought a cheap ticket over to HKT on Thai. Qantas business class was very poor though.

We then flew Dragon Air to HKG as we wanted a week there and then had the amazing pleasure of CX J class coming home which was amazing.

Are the only choices MH via KUL, CX via HKG and then Dragon Air or BKK with Qantas?

Dale.

My sincerest thanks to Formal Hall who was kind enough to reach out and gift me a SWU that was otherwise not going to be used. Exceptionally kind offer and very much appreciated.

Well, there is QR via DOH if you really wanto burn some miles.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I was very surprised to learn that CX award seats that show on QF aren't necessarily available to AA. Two different AAdvantage agents a week apart have confirmed this.

On the QF website there is ample availability; AA can't see any.

Given the relationship between CX and QF, I'm very surprised to learn AA doesn't see at least the same seats as QF.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

My last trip on an AA ticket I had problems with BA showing too much availability. I found out from some people that using AwardNexus and the JL CX option shows the correct availability. That made booking things much easier.

It's a well known issue of phantom CX availability. JL mileage bank gives the only correct info about CX seats that are available to OW redemptions

Quick query - are the limits on point purchases and point transfers/shares linked? I'm looking at being 15k points short of a return award flight in F (account maxed out for points purchases) and am considering xferring the 15k from another account, if permissible.

The wording has changed but:
"Using the Share Miles program, each AAdvantage member is limited to receiving no more than one hundred thousand (100,000) AAdvantage miles, and may transfer no more than one hundred thousand (100,000) AAdvantage miles out of their AAdvantage account in a calendar year. Miles shared will be transferred to the designated account immediately"

Generally the "Buy miles/Gift miles" programme is treated separately from the share miles programme. You will have to pay a fee for transfer but to travel in f it will be worth it!

Could you do a one-way trip from each account, instead of trying to do the return from one?

More expensive unfortunately - trying to do by encompassing AA's current offer of 80k+45k bonus and then some sharemiles.

Just saw another solution - SPG is having a sale on Star Points which transfer to AA miles. 20K for $525 and you get a bonus 5K when transfer to AA. Your SPG account needs to be at least 14 days old to purchase. If your partner has a SPG account with the same residential address they can buy 20K also and transfer to your SPG account before you transfer both lots to AA if want 50K in total.

Anyone find any interesting ways to get the 4 AA segments other than AUS-US w QF on AA codeshare?

I'm doing some internal flts on AA and have started a booking whilst logged in my AAdantage m'ship, but can't see an option to add baggage or pay $25. Looking at their 'who gets a free checked bag' pop up as a lowly LTS with ruby status, it would see that I don't qualify for a freebie, but there's no where for me the pay the $25.

Have I got it wrong and they wish to actually give me a free checked bag?
