Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

citi -> SPG -> AA - now that's a way to keep aussie C/C holders happy from a 'global' bank. (at the right conversion rate of course... something like HH would do perfectly ;) )

That was my line of thought but then I realised Citi Sig does not transfer to SPG. I think it is time for me to contemplate Citi Prestige...

Does anyone know whether one can keep Citi Signature and apply for the Prestige? I don't really want to give up my free-for-life Sig card.

Notwithstanding the CX phantom availability issue, if the JAL website is showing MEL- HK and HK-LHR as being available when searched separately, but not showing it available when searched as MEL - LHR, can AA still book this award ticket as 1 award?

Depends on "married segments". Look that term up for more info. So the answer is, possibly.

CX's love affair with married segments has done my head in on more than one occasion previously (I think I've even written about it in this very thread).

Interestingly, I have found that I cannot book a particular CX itinerary using QF points but I can with AA miles. As recently as a couple of months ago I was unable to book PER-xHKG-SIN on CX using QF points. QF wanted to charge PER-HKG and HKG-SIN prices. But I could do exactly what I wanted with AA miles. More than one QF agent that it was a CX restriction and had nothing to do with them. I got CX to say, in writing, it wasn't them, it was QF. It took a huge effort but I eventually got it ticketed by QF.

This may require its own thread
Would love to know the details of the correspondence, without the personal details of course
This would be very useful now that QF don't fly to a lot places, and we are 'forced' to use CX ;)

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Not much availability from melb to lhr next may.

So wondering if I happen to get EY one way but later decide to go direct on QF or Qatar, is the extra 15k points be refunded? (Yes I may be crazy not to go EY J)

your award will be repriced to reflect actual travel. This will include any adjustment in taxes, if required.

Thanks. I have changed my award up (class) before but never carrier.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

One of my flights has ticketed, the other hasn't. Payments went through OK for the booking. When should I make enquiries? Ta!

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

FWIW I booked a MEL-HKG-MNL trip for yesterday about 4 days ago on CX J.

I couldn't get the exact flights I wanted (wanted Monday dep) but AA couldn't see the flights even though everything else I checked (BA,QF,AwardNexus) could see it. Figured I couldn't be too choosy just a few days out.

just out of interest, did you check JL to confirm the CX availability? BA/QF return phantom availability, just wondering if JL is doing the same?

Yep which was strange. It had been a long time since searching with JL... what a joke of a website. I thought maybe it could have been early morning departure like USDM used to have but this was CX134 0740 Dep.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

One flight purchased online yesterday still hasnt been ticketed. Points still in the account. It showed on Hawaiian airlines website. Should I call?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

SYD-SFO fares are now live and there are award seats. Interestingly, when QF shows J redemptions available, AA does not.

was also searching earlier today and umm'ing and ahh'ing whether to post! wonder when the seats will show up on AA.

interestingly if you add a further city to SFO the J SYD-SFO option disappears.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

At some time in the future I am looking at taking the family to the US so looked at getting 5 Y milesaavers.Actually good availability.
I felt like ringing the family saying they are going to the states on the 7th June next year as 5 milesAAvers available with the number of miles for each award-zero.:shock::confused:

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Held a P/Z MEL-JFK award today using the 330 day midnight DFW ... (I am waiting for Z on an A32B which has been appearing around 327 days ... booked in US Z via CLT currently).

I had been stalking the QF P class on E/F for ten days and observing closely.
