A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

What are the chances of being able to book LHR-xDXB-xMEL/SYD-PER as one award and not being hit with MPM?

I've had no success in booking PER-xMEL/SYD-AUH on EY as one award due to MPM (and also published routing) and I've been successful in getting PER-xMEL-xSYD-xSIN-xLHR-CPH on the one award but I'm curious about this one.

Never mind.

Turns out I've already booked exactly what I'm curious about - and, yes, for 80k in First (and originating outside of LHR but transferring through).

I somehow managed to snag similar, except to MEL (via QF2) on the AA site first time by originating outside of LHR. Great value awards (for a few more weeks :S).

If I book an economy award through AAdvantage and after the award is ticketed J or F open up on the same flight(s), would that incur any change or re-ticketing fees?.

I am looking at Europe to Brisbane and the only availability I can see from connecting points is Y. If J availability for example was to open up later on I would like to upgrade the award from economy on the second leg but I don't know what the consequences might be. Given the changes to the scheme from 22 March, re-ticketing would be very costly if the points required increases 30 odd percent.

Can anyone help? Hope that makes sense.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Upgrading class just requires additional miles without fees (unless there are additional taxes payable eg. Uk departure). I've done it a few times. Of course the jump in points may be large if you do it after the new points table kicks in.

Have you tried calling AAdvantage to check availability for awards you can't see online?

I recently booked AA award flights with my pre-devaluation AA points, flying later in the year on QF (MEL-DXB-LHR in F :D) and returning on EY (LHR-AUH in F Apartment , AUH-MEL in J :)). The ticket has been issued but I don't see any way to make seat selections via the AA site.

Am I right in thinking I need to contact AA reservations to get the AA and EY booking references in order to select seats on the QF and EY websites?

You need to call EY to make seat reservations - having the EY record locator won't help you.

For QF - that should be possible to reserve on line once you can manage your booking.

I was just able to select my seat on EY via their website. Selection stuck and it was fairly painless. I got the EY record locator from AA.

When I booked in January, using AA miles on EY, AA provided me with the EY record locator without having to ask. Was able to select seats on EY website a few days later (after ticketing) without any problems.

Have not needed to speak with EY, so far.

I have an AA J award booking for 2 pax with JL SYD TYO and would like to move the date a few days back.
jL website shows only 1 seat availability on some days and waitlist availability on others.
Can I waitlist JL seats through AA? Does anyone have any experience with how long JL waitlists take to clear?
