What flight were you on?
QF93, ANZAC day.
...

The cheese ;)
That's for that - either the camera's or my memory began to get a bit vague by then - probably the latter .

...

This visit to the Flounge has been very subdued in anticipation.....hope I'm not holding back in vain.
I held back in the MEL FLounge, merely having poached eggs on sourdough toast with spinache, smoked salmon and grilled tomatoes washed down with a couple of long blacks. Being ANZAC day in Vic, there was no alcohol permitted that morning.

I'll grab the menu and update with what the course descriptions were.

BTW, here's breakfast pre LAX (circa Midnight MEL time): (Bacon, Beans Mushrooms and Gruyere Toast)

What a great read. I've never flown F or been in the Flounge but as part of a special holiday for SHMBO ( & myself - one has to make sacrifices ) I've scored a couple of classic award Fs in late July QF1 to Singapore returning J on QF82. Our connecting flight gets in early so we will be spending quite some time in the Flounge. So they WILL ring me the day before (a Sunday) to offer a booking for spa?? Or should I ring in the week before to make sure of a booking? I would hate to miss out and lessen the enjoyment for +1 who thinks we are traveling the same as before (J via Brisbane). I am so looking forward to the whole flight with the degustation menu.

cheers

Hi Dr Bob, well done on the F Awards
The First Host will call you the day before your flight and ask about Spa appointments, and when you're arriving at SYD for the kerbside porters etc.
The Spa menu is on the QF website
Here is what it looks like in the Lounge:

On board the Taster menu is fabulous but a little too large if you have a small appetite like me.
I had to skip a couple of courses to have room for the cheese

Enjoy the trip :)

Thanks Princess Fiona, Just looked at the spa menu & I think I'll order +1 the body massage & myself the back. Before lunch I think. We will go the degustation on the flight even though +1 is probably like you but if it is as good as it looks I've been known to become a bit of a hoover so I'm certain we will manage. Will look forward to the phone call.

Cheers Dr Bob

SQ J is very high on my list

they still offered you a hot meal from J ....
perhaps they find that seasoned F flyers prefer a light breakfast ! bossreggie? :P

I very rarely eat breakfast on a flight. I would usually have eaten a substantial evening meal and possibly a steak sandwich late at night. A light breakfast suits well as usually we would also be heading somewhere for lunch on arrival.

A few years ago I was given a survey to complete with regard to in-flight catering. One of the questions was regarding the breakfast and "any time" snacks. I clearly remember saying that breakfast was the least important meal to me. My responses were followed up by someone from QF Catering and I explained why it was not so important to myself or those traveling with me. (Bear in mind that quite often, my traveling party makes up over 1/2 the seats in F on flights we are on.)

I think there was at least one in AKL last weekend ;)

You're right......I forget about him:!:

I have literally millions of frequent flyer points. It's just that usually my travel plans do not allow bookings so far in advance.

An exception to this though, is later this year I am taking my +1, sister and her +1, sister in law, all my nephews and nieces, along with my son and his +1 and a couple of friends to the Olympics. I have 14 in F (only 3rd time ever that I have had the whole cabin) and 6 in J all on 1 flight. There is a mixture of paid and points fares which Matt arranged for me.

I still think flights cost over $200k, but it's not like we do it every week and they were cheaper than both the event tickets and accommodation. :-(

Wow! On the odd chance anyone pikes, I'll be happy to fill in for numbers ;)

The Tasting menu, the Comtes de Champagne 1999, the light supper - AND the full breakfast were all excellent on the A 380 at the weekend.
And +1 enjoyed the tasting selection of matched wine.
Who could complain? :p

I'm flying on QF1 to SIN next week, any tips on what i should do in the F lounge (eat/drink/spa) if i'm having the degustation on board?

I pre-book the spa (they call you the day before) stick to a two course meal & pace myself with the drinks.......thats the plan however, I've never succeeded with the execution ;)

Ta - i know what you mean :D, I'm planning to head to the lounge 90 mins before departure rather than the usual 2-3 hours to prevent the above situation.

I normally have a decent meal/drink the lounge and eat/drink very little on the flights. This flight may be the opposite...

I'd actually get there earlier than 90 mins ahead, have a nice one or two course meal, and a few fizzes (without going over board). Then maybe have your massage. That way, by the time you board, get airborne, and get served, enough time should have elapsed between meals such that there would be minimal effect on your ability to enjoy the degustation menu. Well, that's the theory anyway! :D

That's what I would do as well.
I like lingering in the lounge before flights, sometimes have a massage and even leave and go for a quick walk around the shops before going back to the lounge awaiting the boarding call.
Gotta work up an appetite for those 8 courses ;)
90 minutes would be a little short

Princess
am there now
2 sashimis and a champagne tasting do for me! ( squid really wasn't up to scratch today )
I like going for a walk before hand as i need to buy a book and I'm about to be fed and watered for 9 hours then a 3 hours emirates flight !
Chocolates packed and ready to go!

Not too much... :) Two small entrees, a dessert and three glasses of champers (had to try them all, ya see :)) in the F lounge left me with just enough room to eat (and enjoy) all courses of the degustation menu on QF11 a month or two back... wasn't painfully full by the end, but definitely ate more than would normally be recommended.

I'd also agree with the others than 90 minutes isn't really enough time if you want to get a massage and eat something.
