Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

AA won't fly from SFO. But I like your thinking about QF to SFO!

Highly unlikely that AA would fly from SFO, given its not a AA hub.
But for QF it is possible.

Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

I would be hAApy to see more competition, but would not consider flying AA across the Pacific unless they really improved their long-haul product.

Who in their right mind would choose AA over QF?!

AA got with the times and have reverser herringbone seats (same as CX)
Beats QF Mk2 skybeds every day of the week.

Not sure about 20 year old 777 vs a380 though.

Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

Hmmm, as long as no reduction in flights from QF, this has to be a good thing, more choice and options, hopefully maybe a bit more competition, hopefully more AA award space for a route they categorise as one award unlike if Oz flyers go through Asia...

Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

Not long to wait.Announcement to be made at IATA meeting in Miami-Miami time Tuesday 2pm.4am Wednesday in Sydney.

Re: Major new AA route to be announced June 9th.

I've now been told to expect them to announce an additional QF metal route as well as part of this.

Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

Nothing yet but those in the know are reporting there will be an associated QF announcement of a new route for QF metal.

And AA unlikely to be flying 20 year old 777's here if that is the announcement. It will likely be the 77W.Three more on order. So will be relatively new birds.

I would think it will be on their newer 77W aircraft, these have the new seats. This is a return for AA, they did fly here for a few years. Their new long haul product is good, service game has lifted a bit too.

Good stuff, makes a lot of sense if you ask me!

Now for reciprocal upgrade rights!

Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

I agree this is awesome news.
Too bad they aren't starting earlier. I only just booked my SFO trip in August via LAX.
Perhaps next time i can go direct with qf.
Although a QF lounge might be nice. But AA have one in SFO so i guess QF will just get pax to use that.

Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

Good news! Though it seems Qantas will be further stretched with 747s (if they are flying to SFO 6 times a week but there only has been a reduction of 5 services between Aus and US)

Re: Major new AA route to be announced June 9th.

It'll probably make more sense for AA to use a 787 from SFO to SYD.
