Re: Oz Federal Election 2013 - Discussion and Comments

True - most Coalition voters are clueless when it comes to the impact of atrocious diplomatic stuff-ups. They are also clueless about education matters as long as "their" schools get money they don't need whilst funding is ripped away from the most dis-advantaged students.

<snip>

hahaha......it was the ALP "true believers" that got Tony into the PM's office.

This is probably the worst start for a new government since the 1970's. Foreign policy stuff ups, whishy washy back flips and blocking foreign investment when the nationals whinge. Looks like they are heading for one term like the Liberals in Victoria.

I'm afraid you're dreaming it doesn't look like that at all. The professionals that put their money where their mouth is (ie bookmakers) have the coalition at 1:30 for the next Federal election.

Or to put it another way they have a 76.92% chance of winning in their opinion.

So looking like 1 term? No it's early days

I think if it means that it was Labor that lost the election rather than TA and Peta Credlin winning in, you may be right.

So the "professionals" believe the Australian public will continue to be that stupid for 3 more years. Actually ... you may be on to something there, but seeing as I am an optimist I might put a few quid on Labour to beat "One-Term-Tony" at the upcoming DD election.

But back to the actual policy questions - how do you think CP is going with the education portfolio? Do you agree with his actions?

Actually I don't agree with what he's doing, as far as I remember they promised not to change it and if that's the case they should stick with what they agreed.

And I think the DD election flew out the window with the last poll he's in the big chair now and he won't want to risk losing it

Yes, I think the term inter alia was, "Unity Ticket". Can't get much clearer than that. However, of course there will be all sorts of wriggles out of that. The main problem is that 2 major parties as it stands will only ever tinker at the edges. Generally, a lot of voters are pretty sick of most of most of them.

Of course it does. Silly ALP only needed to replace both losers and their run to another term was assured IMO.

Tony is one lucky politician.....very much like Kevin 07. Why do you think Turnbull has hung around:idea:

Very true. And Rudd had approval ratings in the high 60's during his long honeymoon period and didn't survive so its hard to see how a PM who can't hit 50% approval will survive too long. If the LNP want to run as many terms as you believe they will then TA is unlikely to be leading throughout them unless something drastic changes.

Tony's never going to a DD. He doesn't have the stones.

All TA's low approval ratings at this point mean is that hes not off to a great start. Anything can happen from here and probably will. Incumbency is a big advantage once you figure out how to use it.

As we know Tony loves his travel perks, he will only ever call a DD after a year as he won't get the lifetime travel perks (and other perks) that come being Prime Minister for less then a year.

Would you give up a private jet?

Some of Tony Abbott's most controversial speeches have been airbrushed from Coalition history since the election, including a 2009 speech in which he backed a carbon tax, and a 2004 speech in which he described abortion as ''a question of the mother's convenience''.
During Mr Abbott's 2009 carbon tax speech, in which he described himself as a ''climate change realist'', he poured doubt on climate change being man-made, saying: ''We can't conclusively say whether man-made carbon dioxide emissions are contributing to climate change.''
But he went on to say: ''If Australia is greatly to reduce its carbon emissions, the price of carbon-intensive products should rise … a new tax would be the intelligent sceptic's way to deal with minimising emissions.''

Ahh Tony making history disappear!
