Accor - Platinum Benefits?

Currently at the Softiel Sydney.

Booked before any announcement of a change to the program was made (around July/August). So booked a suite in the class below club access expecting an upgrade to club level. On checkin, the lady in the club checkin was extremely rude and denied that upgrades to club access ever happened - despite mtiple upgrades for me over the past 3 years.

If I wanted club access I had to pay $110 for it.

Later on I was speaking to a much nicer lady in the lounge and her take of why they don't offer it is because they have so many Platinums staying here that the lounge would alway be full!!!! So Accor, stop giving away free platinum status. Make people earn it.

Such a poor stay here. No early checkin granted. No welcome drink (until I asked for it). And on every other stay here I've been given a bottle if wine in my room - no such gift this stay.

Not again. I'll go to the Pullman Hyde Park instead.

Congrats on your previous success however it is peak season and upgrades and early check in are subject to T&C's. Protip, don't drink in the soirée lounge unless you like paying $9 for a schooner (fifty lashes).
There's a cheaper bar across the road or catch a fast ferry to manly.

Dont worry, I couldn't drink in Soirée because they no longer allow kids in there!!!! Apparently no longer licenced for kids - which is crazy when it's often the only place to get food from if you want to eat!!

If you want to stick with accor then try the Rockford Novotel. Disregarding the loyalty program I like the four seasons.

Mecure Swanston street Melbourne. Upgraded to a superior suite after my partner made a verbal request. Very appreciated for the next for days. I was surprised given it's peak season. It's extremely busy in the foyer so I'll report back if any additions come our way.

Edit: We were provided with an internet pin today 25/12 following a verbal request. 4Gb over 2 days with advice to see reception if we get through that.

Have any Plats stayed at the Mercure in Brisbane (by the river, not George St)? What sort of perks did you recieve?

I have stayed a couple of times and received nothing, not even recognition as a plat, which we all know with accor means nothing and most probably will continue to mean nothing until they stop giving it ( plat status) away for free.

ps. I spent a lot of money and stays earning mine the way it should be earn't

Two nights for two rooms (us and the kids) at Mercure Charlestown. Drinks voucher on arrival, upgrades to rooms in the Privilege wing. Very nice rooms with good views, spas and Nespressos.

Not bad for a freebie membership. :)

Sorry skyring but I don't share your enthusiasm. The freebies have devalued the value of membership.

As skyring said it's not bad for a freebie membership. Fwiw I had a similar upgrade experience to skyring at the Charlestown Mecure Xmas 2012. So at the least this demonstrates a history, albeit limited, of platinum recognition at that property. I recently discovered what it means to be platinum while travelling in Vietnam and was impressed.

As you should know being BNE based Accor have yet to get the program right, let alone show value, after all allowing hotels to opt out like our Sofitels makes any benefits useless in the first place.

Know what you are saying markis, I follow both Accor and predominately IHG and the perks and benefits in Australia as a whole are not real good for either. I guess it's not that good also for SPG and Hilton. This, I am sure, is due to the smaller quantity of properties compared to the states or Europe where these biggies are based

Actually, for Hilton and Starwood, the most useful benefits (being breakfast and internet) are guaranteed.

This along with lounge access for top tier.

There are elite benefits and there are free nights, IHG does well there.

I'm sold on IHG. I've always been upgraded as plat.

My current stay as ambassador is awesome.

It's good to strategic book one under club room and get it, the spouse stay for free perk is pretty good too! These perks pays for itself after one stay.

Stayed at Pullman Grand Quay Sydney just before Christmas and didn't get anything as Platinum.
