Hi there - Platinum Adv Plus here. Planning a quick holiday to Cairns for a few days in April / May next year...

Pullman Cairns International @ $175 w/breakfast vs Pullman Reef Hotel Casino @ $277... is the Reef Casino really so much better? Any perks / suggestions?

I was also looking at spending a couple of days in Port Douglas... stayed at the Sheraton Mirage in the past but I see there's a Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort and Spa... anyone been there? Is it any good?

I would take the harbour lights over the two cairns options and the Palm cove hotels overall.

Anybody had any success receiving any platinum recognition for the Sofitel Auckland in Viaduct Harbour? Mainly interested in Lounge Access.

Also, would using a complimentary night voucher to make up part of my stay hinder my chances of a room upgrade?

Thanks, Ben

Absolutely ZERO platinum recognition.

Absolutely ZERO platinum recognition.

Thank you! They don't have a lounge either (confirmed by email). I'll still give it a go anyway when I head over that way, it was a nice hotel when I stayed there last (it was a Westin then)

There is no lounge and I've never received any recognition as a plat

Two nights for two rooms (us and the kids) at Mercure Charlestown. Drinks voucher on arrival, upgrades to rooms in the Privilege wing. Very nice rooms with good views, spas and Nespressos.

Not bad for a freebie membership. :)

Similar experience in Taipei Novotel. (Excellent hotel in every respect)

Novotel Newcastle today, nothing. I'll enquire about internet access this evening.

Edit: Just got back to the room to find a welcome note with a complimentary bottle of Tyrrell's, Moore's Creek Brut Cuvée to see the new year in (always appreciated). Welcome gift is a fancy chrome key ring/bottle opener. Instructions for internet access granted following a verbal request.

Interesting to see this hotel has a sign up target of 790 Le Club members. According to the office white board they've managed 290 to date.

I am a platinum Adv Plus member and must say I am not a fan of the program changes. It seems I had better luck with upgrades, welcome drinks and various perks before the "new and improved" benefits. In the last few weeks:

Novotel Twin Waters - Nothing. No upgrade, welcome drink, wifi etc. In fact the staff looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked..
Mercure Clear Mountain - Welcome drinks - but nothing else.
Novotel Rockford (Sydney) - Nothing - after much enquiry still nothing.

Previously we have had a great strike rate with upgrades, drinks, gifts etc. (Including Sofitel Sydeny, Pullman Brisbane, Mercure Melbourne and excellent rewards throughout Asia).

Is it just me?

There's no exec lounge in Sofitel AKL unfortunately.

Cannot comment since the program revamp, however I got a room upgrade and late checkout middle of this year.

Zippo, nothing, naught… platinum recognition during 2 night stay Sofitel Brisbane (30 & 31 Dec). At check-in I showed my Plat. Status card and had an immediate (almost rehearsed) reply ‘we don’t recognise that’. I then mentioned their misleading website, whereby the staff member pointed to the Hotel GM in the reception area who was franticly helping the concierge with the baggage of newly arriving guests.

Not only that, very disappointed in standard of room on 19 floor (old, worn and rundown). For the cost of the room, it was not very impressive. My wife and I ordered room service for dinner and the food was pretty ordinary and smelt off (the buffet in main Rest. was $179 per person NYE). Overall we were not satisfied with the hotel itself and did not feel that it was value for money. We will not be staying at this hotel chain again or any Accor Hotel.

No good, it's awful that they can opt out but it does state they don't recognize Le Club on the website.

I've heard the Pullman BNE looks after guests much better!
