Accor - Platinum Benefits?

Novotel Auckland airport. Platinum status. Arrived, asked for rooms, offered good price for exec room with free upgrade to suite, drinks voucher, late checkout, free internet. Impressed. IHG have never given upgrade for WP status.

Zippo, nothing, naught… platinum recognition during 2 night stay Sofitel Brisbane (30 & 31 Dec). At check-in I showed my Plat. Status card and had an immediate (almost rehearsed) reply ‘we don’t recognise that’. I then mentioned their misleading website, whereby the staff member pointed to the Hotel GM in the reception area who was franticly helping the concierge with the baggage of newly arriving guests.

Not only that, very disappointed in standard of room on 19 floor (old, worn and rundown). For the cost of the room, it was not very impressive. My wife and I ordered room service for dinner and the food was pretty ordinary and smelt off (the buffet in main Rest. was $179 per person NYE). Overall we were not satisfied with the hotel itself and did not feel that it was value for money. We will not be staying at this hotel chain again or any Accor Hotel.

stay at the Pullmans -'they recognised and are great.

Sounds awfully stingy..
That property was much better as a Sheraton.

Checked out of here this morning.

Upgrade to exec & drinks voucher.

Seriously good hotel and the food in the restarunt was amazing. Better stay than hilton bne, syd in the past week.

Just checked into Pullman Reef Cairns was told no exec lounge but as Platinum member free wi fi. Drinks vouchers and a bottle of De Bortolli Legacy Sparkling Brut delivered to room. We are on the top floor lovely room with spa bath and great view over Esplanade - booked during Accor sale so breakfast included too. Think I paid around $190 p.n. which was cheaper than the Hilton. Last week had one night at Mercure Harbourside $138 with breakfast but no other perks. Happy with our choices

Just Checked in @ Grand Mercure Da Nang Vietnam.
Booked Deluxe room & requested high floor.
Upon arrival was greeted by Duty Manager & was treated to an upgrade of a large suite room on one of top floors with a gorgeous views over the river.
The room had a lovely fruit platter & macaroons with a hand written welcome note.
This is a newish & very nice hotel with attentive service.
Sadly the Privilege Lounge is not open this evening, though was offered drinks in the bar in lieu. :D

Fantastic seafood across the bridge over the beach side (My Khe/Danabeach). We found the Novotel fairly good last time. You'll have to fill me in on your trip at the next OOL/BNE gathering :D

Was the exec lounge closed? Or do they not have one?

If they did have one and it was open you should have been granted access based on Platinum status,

They have never had one AFAIK, frequent gambler lounge in its place.

Sofitel is well past its prime. There are better hotels in Brisbane.

Serfty was told no lounge there Is that correct ?
As per Mark's post, there is no lounge.

This contradicts what I was advises at a function in Melbourne last year "All Pullman Hotels in Australia have Lounges".

Anyhoo, not to worry.

24-27 January Pullman Brisbane. Got looked after rather well (2 rooms). Platinum benefits extended for two rooms – EL, etc.

Stayed at Sofitel GC during recent Tattoo Expo. Three rooms booked with friends and no benefits at all and treated like second class guests probably because of our tattoos. Management there unsympathetic when mentioned to her at check-out.

It had nothing to do with your appearance, Sofitel Gold Coast and Brisbane do not participate in the scheme.

I know Sofitel does not participate. I have stayed at many Accor properties around the world including Sofitel.

It was a general comment about the way we were treated.

Just felt the Sofitel did not meet our expectations on this occasion.

Just thought I add my experience: Pullman Sydney Hyde Park, 2 night stay mid January.

Booked the lowest room and rate on the Accor homepage ($180 per night during one of their sales). We were upgraded to a better room apparently (not sure how the basic rooms look like but we ended up on Level 15 in one of the larger King bed rooms, was very spacious). Access to the Executive Lounge which was nice and gave us free breakfast. Welcome letter from the GM. Other than that very courteous at check-in and check out. Would stay there again if price is right.

Just booked Pullman Brisbane King George Square for in 2 weeks time, let's see what that brings. (Stayed at the Mercure King George Square before which is in the same building and shares facilities, and got upgraded to a larger room on a Premium floor and a free bottle of Red. Was going to book the Mercure again but then realised the Pullman is only $10 more, crazy revenue management in my view, but not complaining.)

jsoprano - I have stayed at the Pullman in Brisbane a few times - always get an upgrade, exec lounge, bottle of wine in room etc. They are wonderful!
