Accor - Platinum Benefits?

I stayed at the St Pancras Pullman in August for 7 nights through a booking I made on Expedia.
Do you know if I get the points for a stay like that?
There is nothing on my account
I got caught by booking.com once when staying at the Sheraton in Dubai.

Not a single point !

Have to book direct to get any point.

can I clarify these two posts please - are you both saying that accor wouldn't give you leclub points because you didn't book through their website? eg you provide them at check in with your club card/ or number and they say sorry no points?

A little off topic (Accor) as my stay was with the Sheraton in Dubai

But yes, no point at all as they pointed out that the reservation was from booking.com

The lesson is to get loyalty points, you have to make the reservations directly with the hotel chain.

They honored my Plat status at check-in and upgraded us to a better room and allowed a late checkout but points weren't "discussed" as I assumed they would be allocated?

As is usual with most hotel loyalty programes, you can book through a third party but will usually never get points, (they are regarded as "non-qualifing stays") but you may at times get some upgrade benefits, if they are available, on check-in. They may be given but not allways entitled to them

The reason for no points is simple. When you book through a 3rd party such as wotif.com etc, Accor or Hilton or IHG etc must pay the booking agency a commission for making and handling the booking, this commission used to be 10-15% depending on the company. This was the amount a few years ago when I was in the Hotel industry but may well have gone up since then. This commission deal is the same when any 3rd party company books any service ie hotels, car rentals, airline flights or tours etc. So if the hotel has to pay a commission then they cant also offer to give more freebies away to you when you checkin in the form of points, and also upgrades if they have the possibility of extra revenue from that room.

Sofitel Saigon today, we were greeted by 4 staff members which felt a little awkward. A staff member escorted us to our room. An array of sweets and juice were in the room on arrival. We were provided with a card outlining platinum benefits including 2 complimentary drinks at the lobby bar. Hand written card also provided. Full exec lounge access although no upgrade. Understandable during peak season. Again no complaints with respect to service. There is a bit too much purple in the room though. Full marks for emailing a list of pre-check in requests insofar as pillow menu options and potential dinner reservation options.

Interesting to note that both the Hanoi Pullman and Sofitel offered 3 pieces of daily laundry free of charge, where as Saigon Sofitel is offering a discount on laundry.

Sounds a lovely experience.
O/T: I stayed at the Nikko Saigon last time & it was brilliant as well.

We were just looking at their seafood buffet online *drool* the concierge is working hard to locate a great venue for us.

As for the welcome, the only thing missing was the red carpet and bouquet of flowers, which is what the Angolan diplomats received at the Pullman.

I also received an email from Accor today extending my platinum benefits for another year. This holiday has been outstanding.

I emailed Sofitel Melbourne to clarify what Platinum benefits would be available. The email confirmed everything listed on the Accor website with the except of Club Lounge access. I have replied to their email asking why lounge access wa not available - no reply so far.
Would be interested to hear if anyone staying at Sofitel Melbourne has been given lounge access. I usually book a club room, however it would certainly save some money if I could book the category below and still get access.

I await their reply with great anticipation. This will make or break my next year of accommodation bookings with Accor. There just needs to be a final answer on this.

Reply from Sofitel Mel today. Lounge access is not available at any Sofitel in Australia, only Asia and America. Apparently the Accor website is being updated to this effect.

"Lame" and "let down" comes to mind...

Only Asia and America huh? What about Europe - the home of Accor ...

Can you post this direct email at all?

Not even worth signing up for Accor Platinum if they can't offer this to their elites.

Email content is below:

Complimentary access to Sofitel Executive Lounge is a new benefit available to Le Club Platinum Members but unfortunately does not apply to Sofitel hotel's in Australia.
These benefits do apply to Le Club Platinum members when staying at Sofitel hotel's through Asia and America. The Accor website is currently being reviewed as the information is not clearly identified about the Australian Sofitel hotel's exemption of this new offer.

I would be interesting if anyone else is inclined to check with the hotel to see if the same answer is given. I don't necessarily believe the first answer I am given, particularly when a program is new or the changes are new.

Wonder what happens if you book with the website saying what it does now...

I assume the exclusions are the Brisbane and gold coast ones that don't accept le club Accor - No other sofitel would have a leg to stand on.
