Hi all, I've booked a standalone AA leg on an upcoming trip - I have added my QF number through the AA website but it doesnt seem to be recognising my WP status and it still isnt showing on the QF website/App

I tried to add manually through QF via manage booking but it doesn't recognise the RL - does anyone know how to add this so it recognises my status and i can see the booking through QF?

Try downloading the AA App and see if the details are shown there. You're an AA customer for this so that should be the primary interaction.

It will never show on the QF website unless there is a flight operated by QF in the booking.

AA use Sabre, QF uses Amadeus. Bookings through other oneworld carriers like BA will show automatically because they use the same system.

Thanks both, it does show the QF number through AA website / AA App - but doesnt seem to have any recognition of my platinum status,

If you're in Y, can you select preferred seats for free?

Mine doesn't specifically say I'm WP, but it does have my QF number. That's all that counts.

I was in the exact same situation as you AA ticket but couldn't get the darn website to accept my QF frequent flyer number so I could select preferred seats for free. A quick call to AA got this sorted and in no time I was able to select my seats properly online.

Give it a go and let us know whether this works for you as well.

Provided you hold OneWorld Sapphire (i.e. Qantas Gold status) or better yes you can select preferred seats for free. Here's what my seat selection map looks like after I got AA to add my QFF number over the phone:

I was not asking generally, I was asking OP as this would indicate whether it had his status linked or not.

I know OWS can select seats for free.

Just use the message feature in the AA app. Surely the last thing anyone wants to do is make a call they don't need to.

Yes but that would involve installing the AA app. Would much rather call than install yet another app I'll only use once. And unlike Qantas, when you call AA someone answers right away!

Another surprise awaits you when you tick over QF WP!

PS
The AA app is great. The feature that alerts you that your checked luggage is actually loaded is quite reassuring (even with AirTags).

Is there a guarantee that I'll be speaking to someone in Hobart when I call in as a World Platinum or is that only reserved for Platinum 1?

I'll look into installing it (along with the FinnAir app since I'll be flying FinnAir from Sydney to Frankfurt, including one segment from Sydney to Singapore which is great for EU261).

If you DM on Twitter it goes to the same people. But yes, I don't understand why you'd fly AA and not have the app. It's the same app to use the IFE.

As for calling AA - it depends. Call during the US off peak period, they pick up straight away. Call during their peak period you can wait a long time.

Yes they have a different department for Australia but I'm guessing they move staff around to have more staff during US peak times. Obviously the staff are neither in the US or Australia.

Yup - the app is good, and if you've paid cash, there are some fairly tasty offers for upgrade close to departure.

More practically, it also (should) let you know about gates etc.

Install app, login, send message. They will message you back when its done or if they need any further info. Uninstall app once complete. Lets say five minutes actual interaction with the app.

or

Call AA, go through the prompts, enter your details, wait for an indefinate amount of time to actually talk to someone, explain what you want to do, etc etc. Anywhere from 10 minutes to multiple hours depending on the time of day.

Or as @justinbrett says above, just DM them on twitter, same outcome.

Still boggles my mind why people insist on a call when there is absolutely no reason for it.

If you're flying domestic F, it also shows free same day flight change options

Not sure I‘ve seen that before. I suspect it doesn’t work for award flights booked in F?

Yeah, I just noticed an upgrade offer for an upcoming flight ORD-BOS for US$97ea. But it says you only earn points on original ticket (which I assume flows through to QFF)?

I think you have to be on a 1- ticket (ie, not QF award).

I generally fly AA F revenue so don't know for sure, but it's always there on revenue.

I agree that the AA app is actually pretty good - specially with bag tracking and other features (let's not rehash the airtag/bag track debate again!). I find it very helpful.

Just a note that no, AA won't display status in the app or in abooking for QFF#'s but will show on BP's when checked in and such (ie: SAPPHIRE/EMERALD etc)/

EDITED:
And AA changed policy in 2020 and removed QFF WP from being able to select MCE and preferred seats for free. I think only BA, JL and CX's get that as partners now. annoying but it is what it is.
