Bowled over another of the gooddrops.com.au test bottles tonight:

Anybody who doesn't know the history of Madame Louise Pommery then please do yourself a favour and google her - she is basically solely responsible for 'Champagne' as we know it today. We did the tour of the Pommery Champagne House last year - just fabulous.

This drop is ok - not sensational - but ok - I really would love to have a few bots in cellar just because of the Pommery history - but tonight this didn't knock our sox off - $42.99 bott from gooddrops is still a very keen price - but just not sure whether I will pull trigger or not.

My uncle put this stuff out for drinking on Saturday night at his [and my fathers] joint birthday party (mainly because his wife likes it). I had to laugh at one of my female cousins who when exiting the party (having had the Champagne delivered to her all night), asked "what swill were we drinking all night" - only to have her daughter show her the bottle...needless to say, my cousin shut up and exited stage left very quickly, because she probably won't get the opportunity to drink it again ;)

Anyone have a view on these, in general I find this site as pretty good source of wine so wondering about their champagne

Champagne

I have tasted a couple of the Champagne selection from wine direct. I also buy quite a bit and am rarely disappointed. I received a bottle of the Bernard Remy Carte Blanche as part of a mixed dozen reds with the Champagne included and it was delightful. I'm more of a red drinker, but have on more than one occasion been in a position to have a glass of Champagne and have found the Moet & Chandon and Veuve very average so was skeptical at a label I had never heard of in Bernard Remy, but was leagues ahead of both the Dan Murphy's stocked Champagne.

As for the Le Mesnil, I tried a bottle as a celebration at a restaurant in Adelaide and payed around $150 for a bottle of the 2007 Prestige Grand Cru. It was hands down a fantastic expreience. I am eager to try the rest and I'm sure I can track some down from my Wine Direct broker!
