Advice on champagne

I wonder if David Jones will price match on champagne. Currently selling 2003 Dom Perignon for $272, but Dan Murphy's selling it for $198.

It's worth 4 MR points per dollar at DJ's...

IMO the 2003 is a waste of money, whatever the price ;)

Dom 2000, 2002 or 2004 are far superior. With best to least best in that order, although debate rages.

Last year the 2002 was nothing to write home about. ;)

But either way it's not for me. Going to a party for New Years Eve (bleh, I hate New Years Eve) so it's just a gift for the host!

I have a 2000 bottle at home and I have no intention of drinking it within the next 10 years.

Oh well give it away then! ;)

The 2000 should keep nicely but not for too long.
I have a 2002 which I intend to drink within 5 years.

I like the yeasty flavour of Veuve Clicquot and bought 6 bottles of the NV at BWS. The 30 % discount brought the price back to about DM's price but gives me triple QFF points

I also am quite fond of the champagne with more yeasty notes, than those subtle brands with less yeast on the nose and palate. Its quite amazing how after you consume champagne on a regular basis, how totally different each "brand / type" is, and how complex the flavours are when comparing it to its poorer sister the Australian Sparkling...

So what's everyone drinking tonight.... remember, unless there's a photo, it didn't happen...!

Happy cork popping everyone & Happy New Year...!

Don't know yet. Got a ton of champagne and wine but a friend wanted me to go out. So we're paying $143/head to get unlimited drinks until 1am, from 9. Considering I'd be happy with my Billecart or Krug at home, I'll have to drink a lot of some decent stuff to make it worth it!

I cannot see this working out in the financial or alcohol domains, so I hope the company is good!

We are actually having a formal do at home tonight - I have had to have a warm up with a bott of Mumm followed by a Lanson Black Label and now just testing the Veuve to see if it is cold enough! :D

I'm in BKK at the moment and the streets are packed! We decided on the intercontinental function as the St Regis where are staying are exorbitant!

Sitting on the balcony at 11pm overlooking PPB drinking Champers like there will be no tomorrow and checking for fireworks that have been set off early.

What do you call this type of thing when these guys go off early? - 'Premature Crackerlation'?

I have two bottles of champers to choose from. Going to be a long night ;)
Louis Roederer brut premier. Haven't tried it before but thought I would give it a go (that's for the UK New Years).
For the Mexican New Years, I have a bottle of Tattinger Grand Crus.

The Roederer is quite dry and I actually like it. To me, it tastes like it has hints of apple. Checked prices and reviews in the UK and Australia and was very surprised. Price wise, on Mexico is it about 30% less than the UK, and well with Australia - let's not go there....

To see out the old and in with the new, yesterday I had a glass or two of Delamotte, Veuve and Bollinger. A delightful way to end the year.

We will be having some NV Taittinger to toast the New Year in a couple of hours along with some goodies from Dean & DeLuca
It was quite a challenge to find a decent wine shop anywhere near Times Square.
Where would we be without google? :)
