Advice on champagne

Last night I was disappointed with the Veuve Clicquot. I am now wondering if the Krug has messed around with my taste buds.

Now that's an appalling affliction!
But think of the joy you had in acquiring it.
And, if it persists, you have a medically sanctioned reason to drink more Krug. Not such a bad outcome? :)

I have already expunged the Mumm taint from my household already. Or else I would have gladly sent it your way! The Manson gold is the new flavour of the month in my household. The missus likes it too!

First DM/Qwibble click and collect order today. Was picked and ready to go in one hour. I know some of you don't like Mumm but it's perfect for Mumm's day.

Totally irrelevant what others think of Mumm or any other drink of which imbibe - it's what YOU think of it - of course we are all free to express opinions - but ones own taste is all that counts.

well the 17.6% qwibble finally came through the other day, and even beat the blind champagne tasting i'd bought the grog for!

hosting it in a few weeks and looking for a recommendation of the order to serve it in... current crop is as follows:
Billecart-Salmon
Bollinger
Laurent Perrier
Louis Roederer
Moet
Perrier Jouet
Pol Roger
Veuve Clicquot
Taittinger

also if there's an obvious NV i've missed let me know and i'll add it to the pack!

In here there's been quite some debate regarding Mumm Cordon Rouge Brut... Perhaps this could be added to your blind tasting with results reported back to this group...?

My first pass on order, with the caveat that I have not tasted Perrier Jouet and Laurent Perrier, and on recollections would be something like this:

Pol Roger
Billecart-Salmon
Taittinger
Louis Roederer
Veuve Clicquot

Moet
Bollinger

?
Laurent Perrier
?Perrier Jouet

Some of the tasting notes here may be useful:

I reckon you will indeed be blind after that lot...

I've never paid much attention to airport pricing but can someone tell me whether it's cheaper to buy champagne at BNE on-departure or SIN on-arrival?

Getting a few bottles for the parental units and rellies in Malaysia we're visiting - thinking 2 x Dom 2004, Billecart rose and Charles Heidsieck 2000 (if not available my back up is the La Grand Annee). Probably exceeds the SIN duty free allowance but past experience suggests they don't care even when asked.

It's probably cheapest getting them at Dan's but really can't be bothered bubble wrapping etc and wasting valuable checked baggage space.

Ended up getting:
BNE - Taittinger CDC 2004 $199, Taittinger NV $109 for twin pack
SIN - Dom 2004 S$199, Krug S$183 reduced from S$223 (got a $40 discount thanks to 2 x $20 transit vouchers for connecting on SQ/MI - alas we were connecting from PEN or we'd have received $40 each!)

Not much range in duty free shops as I've come to realise, but still better than attempting to stuff it all into the suitcase. Generally the prestige cuvees were cheaper in SIN but BNE had the Taittinger CDC (bargain cf $299 at DM's), whilst the reverse is true of NVs as previously noted by another AFFer. La Grande Annee is also available at BNE for $170 but they were out on the day! :(

Thanks for reporting back.
04 La Grande Annee is available at DMs for $175.
04 Dom for ~$170 is pretty good.

The Changi voucher is pretty good - looks like the offer is valid until the end of September 2014 and expire end of March 2015:

All sounds delectable, Keith.
Let us know how the cork popping sessions go.

Looks like you have a great selection, only maybe, missing a very important NV..... Krug NV:p

ha - you'll be waiting > 90 days for payment!

purchased from DM's on 22 January, got paid last week

that being said, if you're going to be purchasing anyway it's money for jam

Useful perhaps but did not address the OP's question...

As our favorite writable CD brand suggested, I want to know how long Qwibble takes to show up as tracking. Starthere is very quick with this - usually less than 24 hours. I have an order through Qwibble which is now 3 days old but doesn't show up as tracking yet.

I don't mind how long payment takes.

I have gone through about a case worth of Mumm and it was honestly putrid. I'll just chalk it up to taste buds... I also don't like Dom and would take a bottle of Bollinger/pol roger/billiecart NV any day. On a side note has everyone tried the Lanson gold? I think its awesome value for 50 bucks a bottle ATM.

Agree with most things here, especially the Billiecart and Lanson. SQ used to serve Lanson in J not sure if they still do.
