Advice on champagne

We will be driving to Reims (from Beaune) on Friday and will be touring and tasting on Saturday. Hopefully we will find some good champagnes from the less well known makers

Beaune is another beautiful place. Their Saturday morning market is fabulous. ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1401158162.053578.jpg

And bresse chickens. Best in the world. Heads included.

Going to live in France one day.

Just to get back on topic

I am in Milan today and saw a supermarket selling 2002 Dom for under €130. Very tempted, but alas it is too much bother to take home to the UK.

Dom 2004 is at DMs for $179.. was thinking of joining SH (it has slipped my mind for some time now).. this might be a good time to sign up!

It's gone up to $229!
I didn't take the offer last night.. thought I would wait until today. Maybe it's a sign..

Or a clerical error.

JessicaTam, you are so observant. I didn't even notice the dome. I've zoomed in on the original and it isn't significantly more expensive than the others. Maybe they only had 1 dome? :p

The weekend order of Krug,Moët and Vintage Chandon was delivered on Monday morning so the Krug was $180 a bottle after starthere and Woolies 5% off gift cards. I had to buy 6 bottles to get the deal so I went the three specials.

I played it so I did not have to Qwibble this time Shintaro10x. Starthere want to pay the rebate in 90 days and I think I can wait that long.
Krug city in Perth early next week.

I wont be using Qwibble again... once was enough to be disappointed with their service...

However I'm always happy with the service over at starthere...

Sorry for the OT, but it's just wonderful when everything works using starthere.... I strongly advise against using qwibble who don't even confirm the purchase and leave you wondering what is happening...

Unlike starthere who send out the email within 24 hours of your purchase...

Sorry for the delay in getting back to y'all... I was in Paris, after all! Now stopping over in the rather less inspiring second home of Singapore :P

Was it raining? Apparently it rains most days. Which I thought unusual given that it doesn't rain all that much in the Barossa Valley but it still produces nice sparkling wines. Maybe it's about the limestone and drainage.

There were a few seasons on the day we went... it never actually rained as such, but there were times when we thought it was better we were inside the rental car we had for the day. A light sprinkle or sun shower was all we had to put up with.

Awesome, how much were they each (in Euros)?

The Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blanc 2004 was 115 EUR and the Grands Crus was 40 EUR. Looked to be reasonable value on a quick DMs check from the Taittinger caves ;) Just as an aside, they were serving this Prelude Grands Crus alongside the Brut Rose at the BA First Lounge in LHR T3 on way here on Tuesday, as well. A lovely couple of lounge drops! I actually prefer the T3 First Lounge to the one in T5.

Yep definitely Epernay, and agreed that it is much nicer than Reims (and for those who haven't been inducted, it's pronounced rance - rhymes with valance).

I was going to say dance but some of us use the English pronunciation ;)

Some good houses in Reims also, so worth a look around, but wouldn't try to do both in a day trip ex-Paris.

Yes, it was Avenue de Champagne in Epernay that was pictured back in Pushka's post... A lovely walk it was for us after a lovely lunch at a very lovely local bistro/bar in Epernay.

I agree on the one day timeframe being tight for both Reims & Epernay in the one day. We would have preferred at least a day in each, however time did not allow that for us this run to Europe. We'll just have to go back, I suppose... what a tragedy ;)

Cheers.
