Advice on champagne

nice one cruiser. any noticeable difference in the world cup taittinger to the standard?
ZERO that we noticed.

Had to laugh at one point in time last night - one of the guys sharing the evening with us was one of the guys I shared the FIFA Taitt info with but he did not buy any - whilst sampling it last night he remarked to his wife - 'Jo this is nice - we should get a few bottles of this!'

The girls came over for my long-awaited birthday Billecart tasting last night, with some interesting results. The strong fan favourite was the Nicolas Francois 1998, but all of them ranked the NV Rose over the Elisabeth Salmon 2000! (I'll happily drink any of them) The Demi Sec was another favourite with most of the room.

Thanks for everyone's advice re: order etc! It worked out beautifully, and we indulged in some yummy food pairings like oysters, sushi, caviar and Reims rose biscuits.

I had the 98 at Christmas and whilst it was nice, I wouldn't rave about it. Same with the 2004 Dom I had a few days later.

I think I'll stick to my Taittinger NV.

I bought myself for Xmas this book by Tyson Stelzer:

The Champagne Guide 2014-2015 : Tyson Stelzer : 9781742705415

I would highly recommend it - especially for the great general information in the first sections. Very good value at the Book Depository price.

One thing to be very aware of with Champagne in clear bottles (thinking lovely Ruinart) is 'lightstruck'. This came home to me today when I was in a good wine store and saw Ruinart out of its box displayed on the shelf.

Champagne in clear glass is highly sensitive to chemical changes under light that give rise to an onion-like taste. Fruit esters (like citrus aromas) are diminished and reductive characters (sulfur, cabbage, garlic, onions...) are produced. Freshness is killed.

Never buy clear-bottled Champagne that's been exposed to light.

I've got the previous years edition. It really is a fantastic book. You are spot on about the introductory chapters being really interesting reading.

I've also met Tyson once. Super nice guy with all the time in the world for people. Seriously down to earth guy.

He was in Perth recently doing a couple of events, but I didn't find out in time to totally reschedule my diary for the weekend, so I missed out.

Yesterday I gave one of my blackcat Taittingers to the lady in charge of the cattery where our cat was boarding during the recent Adelaide bushfires. Her area was under bushfire threat so she enacted her bushfire plan and all cats were kept safe. And now she is looking after cats lost from the fire.

I figure that is an entirely appropriate use of Blackcats Taittinger bottles.

And she was so excited because she knew it was quality champagne and a real treat. Her only other comment was that it wasn't chilled as she would have consumed it that night for celebration as the fire threat has disappeared with the torrential rain they received yesterday.

Thanks Blackcat - wouldn't have happened without you!

That's a lovely thing to do. :D I'm also glad to hear that your cat is safe. It was terrible to read about the cattery/kennel that burnt down.

.

I was actually given it for Christmas and can also add my recommendation. I quite enjoy having it on the coffee table for a flick through every now and then.

Apparently a cat was found stuck in a gutter in the area. It was a little singed but SES came to rescue it. Not only had it survived but it belonged to an SES guy who had been fighting the fire. Brought a tear to the eye it did.

I think it worked out fine - like a drum roll!

I guess tapatalk doesn't pick up text colour?
