And for dessert
Welcome to Freestyle | Freestyle Tout

Plus a bunch of chinese restos in Chinatown (less familiar with names so I can't find websites)

The Chinese restaurants in Chinatown are mostly so-so. Then again, I have a Chinese background, and there's only one Chinese restaurant in Brisbane that I know will almost bring up the trumps. So I'm biased.

Freestyle is excellent for desserts and for post-dinner. It is on the fringe of West End (need to catch the CityGlider or 199 bus, otherwise a handful of blocks walk from South Bank). However, I can't remember previous Dos where desserts have been an important part of a meal.

  • Restaurant: Vapiano, located in the new Albert Lane on the Queen St Mall. A bit more in cost than your regular Italian restaurant, but the freshest tasting Italian I have ever had in a restaurant.

This sounds good. I'll have to try this next time we're in the city, even if it doesn't end up being part of AFF#4.

Freestyle is in Emporium too.

but admittedly months and months after suggesting the gathering in another thread...
OK. I have edited the post with the false, misleading information. Do any other posts require editing?

Ok put me down as silver. It is far enough in advance that it could fit in.

There is a roof top bar in one of the clubs in the Valley but I have been told to avoid that place at all costs.
If the club is called the family, about all I'll say is there is/was a cult called the family. Serious I'd suggest avoiding clubs in the valley. They are great but also very naz_ like. I had a friend book a private room in one of the clubs for a post wedding do. They refused entry to all because one or two weren't dressed funky enough. Booking fee lost.

At least no one has suggested city (coughy) rowers. I really like the beer garden (pav bar) at the Stamford for casual drinks but no river views. They might do a package on one of the terraces near the river room. But looks minimum of say $40 per person if I read the brooches correct. A lot of effort for welcome drinks. www.stamford.com.au/spb

There is also Bretts wharf. Get the city cat from the city to bretts wharf, dinner, city cat back.

For more river views there is Oxley's at Milton. Bit out of town, great views, expensive(?). Could do drinks at the regatta and then oxley's then the city cat back to town.

Or there are a couple of resturants at the footbridge end of south bank.

Other drink venues I like are in town the port office and the victory beer garden. But earlier exit on Friday and Saturday before they get too feral. For a really seedy pub the lands office downstairs. Used to do $5 VB jugs for students. To be experienced once in a lifetime. But it has probably been turned into an Irish pub now.

Aaah City Rowers. Lots of dodgy memories from my younger years there... I did suggest it earlier in this thread - It was done up and is now Jade Buddha, with the upstairs part called "the shadow lounge".

Port Office is nice. Friday night drinks are always a challenge as you have to compete with the "drinks after work" crowd.

Not any more there isn't. Oxleys is closed and there is a place called "Drift" opening there.

Summit anyone?

Put me down as Gold (the only thing to change my attendance below Platinum be a downturn in my poor student finances).

Going to get that anywhere I guess. The Regatta is a fairly neutral venue, easy to get to and has reasonably priced drinks. Could start here on one of the evenings and take things from there?

The Boatshed is also another good restaurant, and attached to the Regatta.

It is not an easy place to get to from the city unless you go by taxi. It is a fair walk from Toowong or Auchenflower station and the CityCat stops operating early in the evening.

And by "neutral" I hope you do not mean extremely noisy and inflitrated by drunk 18 year old uni kids. :( There is plenty of time after dinner if anyone wants to go night clubbing.

Never been to a AFF do before, but the stars seem to be aligning right for this one....

Please put me down as Gold for now.

Walked past it yesterday and its shut and looks like its being renovated. No signs up, just closed and lots of construction type noise.

The last citycat leaves the Regatta at 2 minutes to midnight inbound to the city, thats not too early for some ;), and thats everyday of the week!

Some Crickters and Football players may not regard the regatta as a neutral venue :)

My apologies. I seem to recall that I had to leave early to get the CityCat the last time I was at the Regatta.

Maybe you left late in the evening.

We used to walk the 7-8 minutes from Auchenflower there. Or in later times catch a ferry from "River Plaza" to Nth Quay and link with a CitiCat there,

No apologies required, I would imagine ones memory may not be in the best state when leaving such an establishment at any time, if you have had a good time!
