The AFFers have spoken and ADL it is for the next AFF meet.

I shall be organising this one, but of course any help would be greatly appreciated as not being from Adelaide there's sure to be a few places I may miss.

Let us make this as good as MEL, if not better!!

Hi There,

I am new to AFF :)

... since I live in Adelaide, I'd be happy to help out... consider it my initiation into the club... :p

cheers
nana

Your timing is just about right to get to Rockford Winery and try to get some of the Black Shiraz - a might fine sparkling shiraz, all the locals at work rave about it. Well, I work with 2 rockford winery members, which sounds harder to get than CL. Very exclusive, invitation only, if on the mailing list for 20 years after someone dies. Although their website strikes me as slighty  pretentious....

Krondorf Road

Winepros - Wine Profile

I'd also suggest visiting Seppelts winery for the location rather than wines and/or Yalumba

A great place to stay is the Majestic Garden in Frome St

Glenelg is quite good, but apparently there is a bit of youth violence in that area after dark.

I'd also suggest that there is a better range of eateries in Gouger St and Rundle St (in the city area) then what's at glenelg.

There is also Jolly's Boathouse for eating - suppose to be good, but I've never been there.

Decent eats in North Adelaide as well, Melbourne St and O'connell St.

Pubs in town - The Union is damn good.

The Cathedral opposite Adelaide Oval if you're doing the cricket.

Wheatsheaf at Thebarton (Theb-arton not The-Barton) excellent range of single malts and some great beers on tap. Alternative lifestyle patrons (in case that matters)

There's Hindley St - sort of Kings cross-ish, strip joints, bikie pubs and bikie shotouts, footballers, but not quite as seedy as the cross and more mainstream like brisbane city compared to the valley.

A few suggestions, hope they help

Put me on the Confirmed list, please. I just have to sort out flights and hotel.

Currently I think I will DJ at least one leg of my journey. All of the lowest-bucket fares of the depart-post-5pm BNE-ADL flights are gone (now $215 :(:(), which means swinging on DJ may be an option. I was kinda swinging on whether or not to try PE - does anyone have any recent opinions on DJ PE? (Sacrificing a larger seat, priority check-in and some rewards points, I could get lounge access on any DJ ticket for $30.)

Hmmm... choices, choices, choices.....

QF: $215 = unupgradable seat, meal (of some description), QP access (with my QF SG)...
DF: $149 = seat, +$8 (23kg bags), +$30 (lounge access, which will be needed since no meal on the ADL flight; or alternatively a dinner from BNE Dom food court, which is probably not going to total $30) = $187 all up

+ the respective credit card charges...... *shudder*.........

Then again, I also have a "voucher" left from an aborted MR in NZ....

ex-ADL flights are a similar furphy, except this time I could leave at 1725 or 1740, routed through MEL / SYD for $164 / $174. DJ alternative is $169 direct to BNE departing at 1955. No need for lounge access here as I can guest on other people leaving around the same time (can't get in on my QF SG since I would not have a QF ticket). QF last flight of the night to BNE direct, which leaves 1940, is $215 :(

So.....leave early and alone, or leave later - higher price - but in the companionship of friends.....

I think I might select a hotel that is not so high on price scale this time, considering the amount of time (and services I exploited) from my last stay. (Although it did count to status.) Besides, the triple points promotion is no longer available from the QF website for Hilton Adelaide for these times, unless it is PRT40S (Triple Mile Select) rate from the Hilton website - the rate code doesn't tell you which frequent flyer schemes are qualified for the rate - can any Hilton hoteliers here help out?

medhead - does that mean you're coming? :D
A very good question. As I reside in Adelaide, I'm likely to be here, depending work demands and a conference that is on around that time.

However, I thought I probably wouldn't take part this time, because I feel that I have a lot more to learn before taking that next step. Not to say it wouldn't be great to meet some of you all. :)

Where is RADelaide? Or did miss some reference somewhere in another thread?

Oh, c'mon... there's no such prerequisite to coming to any AFF event. Think of it as a way of expediting your learning. :)

We don't bite... much. ;)

What's there to learn?

It sounds like this event is exactly what you need - to meet and learn.

Besides, cricket is in town.
