It sounds like this event is exactly what you need - to meet and learn.

Besides, cricket is in town.

On the note of meet and learn, perhaps this time around shall we do name tags with lanyards (a la previous OzFest)? I don't mind stepping up to the plate for this one, if we get a yay for the general populace and the blessing of the organising committee.

Wouldn't the cricket take the whole day? (Assuming it's a one-day match.) So perhaps an alternative Sunday program needs to be found. Have no idea what this could be.............

Consider me confirmed. QF689 1515-1605 MEL-ADL on Friday, and QF692 1725-1910 ADL-MEL on Sunday.

No idea on digs yet.

Oh, c'mon... there's no such prerequisite to coming to any AFF event. Think of it as a way of expediting your learning. :)

We don't bite... much. ;)
Fair call. Sorry for sounding so precious.

I'll have to see how things stack up closer to the time.

A yay from me... Thanks for the kind offer. :)

Has anyone been keeping track of flights and hotels?

Have got the following thus far:

Code:
Handle/flight number/arrival or departure time [hotel]

Incoming (FRI 28/11):

[B]QF009[/B]/QF685/1500 [Hilton]
[B]tuapekastar[/B]/QF689/1605 [???]
[B]Flashware[/B]/QF810/2240 [Breakfree Directors’ Studio]

Outgoing (SUN 30/11):
[B]
tuapekastar[/B]/QF692/1725
[B]QF009[/B]/QF696/1925
[B]Flashware[/B]/QF599/1955

Cheers, Hilton looks to be the go. Was tossing up between it and the Hyatt as I need to get a couple of stays at each under my belt before year end :) Might stay a night at each yet!

Good plan...

If we like the name badge idea, I'll do them more or less like at Oz Fest #5.

I'll try and get clip-able name badges with the option of clipping on a lanyard (which will also be supplied if I can locate some). On the badges, apart from a suitable logo of sorts for AFF (might need some help from admin for this one), we'll need to also add event info (AFF Gather #2: Adelaide) plus:

  • AFF handle
  • Real name (first name will do fine - in preferred style, e.g. do you prefer Jon, Johnny, Jonathan, Jonah, etc.)
  • Home location (in true AFF/FT style, using three-letter IATA code)
e.g. jjdoe, John, SYD

Can people please email me those details so I can start collecting numbers and details for the badges. You can email me through the relevant links in my profile (or click on my name in this posting and the pop-up menu should have an email link). Please email and not PM - yes I'll see your email address but I do not want to be PM bombarded (this is not FT where free members get 500 PMs! I'm up to 50% of capacity already, so it doesn't take much imagination to work out how easily my PM cap will be filled if every attendee PMs me their details...). For those bringing significant others, don't forget name/handles so badges can be prepared for them as well.

I guess one of the side-effects from this is that I should be one of the first to appear at the gather, since I'll have the duty of handing out the badges. Suddenly, that midday-ish DJ flight from BNE doesn't look so unattractive.

Hi All,

Have we decided what we want to do? Did I miss it?

Flashware is your man. There is a rough itinerary some posts up.
I think there is also strong interest in the cricket (Sunday?) so would need to keep that in mind for any plans laid.

Suggested Plan

Friday Night

Welcome drinks @ The Tapp Inn (Welcome to The Tap Inn) - 5 min taxi ride max, and over 70 taps including 54 'wines on tap':shock:

Saturday

09:30 - 17:00
Barossa Wineries Tour ($69) or Tours - Wine Lovers Tours providing memorable group tours of South Australia's premier wine regions including the Barossa Valley, McClaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, & Langhorne Creek. (Deluxe, $88 - minimum of 8 people)

19:00 - 22:30
Mapo - Korean Restaurant - Adelaide - Dinner @ Mapo Korean Restaurant (average cost of 3 course meal ~$50)

Sunday
Cricket (Test match day 3, Australia v New Zealand) 10.30am->5.30pm $27 for general admission
or

How do people normally get around to the wine tours? Assumably we don't drink and drive, so unless some people in the group are committed to being sober.....

I wonder if we can round up two more 'guest speakers' for this AFF Gather, unless, of course, we employ the services of the vibrant two we had during our last AFF Gather.....

The wine tours are conducted through the use of minivans, so driver etc. is provided

I think the first tour (@$69) looks like good all round value, and it actually highlights some of the sites in Adelaide, rather than being just a straight wine-o-rama.

e.g. the biggest rocking horse in the world, a native fauna park, and some great photo shoot opportunities.
