Consensus of opinion suggests nothing happening refurbishment wise and return them to their owners when the 787's arrive

Although it was previously stated that the 8 787s would replace the 5 older 747s (which they roughly do in terms of pax capacity)

There has been some speculation that EBG/EBL may also be returned to lessor and then to RAAF but nothing confirmed. Then we have the Instagram posts that all refurbs are complete, which goes against previous QF announcements.

Interetsing that they confirm using upgraded aircraft on this route so still no clearer as to what is happening with the non refurbished birds.

They said the same thing when launching BNE-NRT yet it also got non-refurbs on ocassion

Yes of course - whilst EBG and EBL remain in the fleet, they could pop up anywhere on the QF A330 network, at any time.

Can I say I told you so months ago now that HNL was going to be problematic and to not be surprised to see these two a/c staying as is!

Can I also point out that both ebl and ebg appear to be leased from Australian based shell companies. Normally this mean Qantas essentially 'owns' the aircraft with the lease being for finance purposes only. As opposed to the two they have got rid of which were from known aircraft leasing companies. Difference being is a finance lease it is a lot harder to simply return the aircraft to the leasor, they would need to be sold to remove them from the fleet. So don't think the lease arrangement is why these are remaining unreturned he'd instead sure it is because of HNL.

According to Flightaware

VH-EBG:
OAS AUSTRALIA INVESTMENTS LIMITED
MACQUARIE PARK , NSW, Australia

VH-EBL:
CBA AIR PTY LTD
SYDNEY , NSW, Australia

--

This is different to say

VH-OEB (older 747)
QANTAS AIRWAYS LIMITED
MASCOT , NSW, Australia

VH-OQA (first 380)
QF BOC 2008-1 PTY LIMITED
MASCOT , NSW, Australia

--

Further searches on OAS INVESTMENTS PTY LTD
formerly known as:
MACQUARIE MANAGED INVESTMENTS LIMITED
and it owns the lease on other Qantas 330/737s:
Aircraft owned by OAS AUSTRALIA INVESTMENTS LIMITED currently registered in Australia

Further searches on CBA AIR PTY LTD
show it is an entity of the Commonwealth Bank

So both EBG and EBL to appear to belong to genuine leasing companies

QF A330 refurb

Hi AFF community

Does anyone know if Qantas will be refurbishing VH-EBG and EBL with the new business suite?

Thanks

Re: QF A330 refurb

At this point the answer is it appears not, but nothing definitive

Re: QF A330 refurb

Wait, they're not?! That's pretty poor.

Unless they're being returned to the lessor in the next year or so, these aircraft should be refurbished just like the rest of the fleet. Otherwise QF will still have a sub-standard product plying routes like SYD-HNL and SYD-MNL on a regular basis.

Re: QF A330 refurb

According to the instagram post it seems fairly definitive :(

Isn't an IG post as definitive as galley talk? Isn't there and email floating around somewhere from QF suggesting that they will be done, but not immediately?

The instagram post was in the other thread. A mechanic/engineer working on the plane said no refurb and all the refurbs have been done. This plane was just get a refresh.

Re: QF A330 refurb

Yes, but someone who works at QF leaked a copy of a staff memo which said those two aircraft would be done "later".

No, the staff member answered the question "was the plane in for a refit".

The staff member provided an answer to that question. As John has mentioned there is a memo going around suggesting that these 2 refits are currently delayed.

For the record the same staff member who may be the face of one of the QF advertising driving refers to the product as Millennium Skybeds...
