Re: QF A330 refurb

No, the staff member answered the question "was the plane in for a refit".

The staff member provided an answer to that question. As John has mentioned there is a memo going around suggesting that these 2 refits are currently delayed.

For the record the same staff member who may be the face of one of the QF advertising driving refers to the product as Millennium Skybeds...

post #2921 suggests otherwise. I haven't seen the memo. edited to add I suppose the Instagram could mean they are all done 'for now'. I wonder if they have a batch of 46 seats lying around, or if they haven't been ordered yet?

Here you go. Courtesy Brettmcg, 30 August.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

sorry... I must be a bit slow. Memo 30 August says they may think about doing the remaining aircraft sometime in the future. Instagram on or around mid September says 'nope, all refurbishments now completed'.

you'd think QF would know if they had 56 new suites lying around still to go into aircraft?

or they're delivered as required (even 28 suites take up a bit of room), and the instagram poster, who I believe is a young engineer, has just assumed that, although they do appear as disdainful as most of us about the RC IFE units.

Either way nothing definitive.

And that even the best laid plans/announcements can change (especially in the airline industry). Things happen, plans change...wouldn't be great if everything in life was perfect ...just as in life in general...cough happens..

people understand plans can change... but we'll have to see whether qantas comes to play ball here. are they going to offer $1000 cash compensation for pax expecting a suite but end up on an angled seat? (similar to BA's compensation for old first)

where people rightly complain is where an advertised feature is not given, and the airline hides behind small print to get out of their obligations.

Mods, please fix. Something peculiar happening to this thread on 330 refurbs. Last post about Note 7 and previous two had different subject matter re JQ MEL-SYD rumour. Love to read more about the JQ rumour thread but in the right place (or is my computer compromised).

Something went weird in thread merge. The content seems OK but the titles have corrupted
The JQ rumour thread is a title from 2013 from what I can see - so no new news there - www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/...rogram/rumour-denied-rr-qantas-ban-55148.html

Thanks Moa999, saw JQ MEL-SYD on the Dreamliner and was tempted hence the 'rumour' interest. Good to know it was unfounded from 2013. Keeping on topic, doing SYD-BNE on a 332 next week and am getting one of the 2 ugly sisters.

T48 for my SYD-HNL QF3 is showing as un-refurb. EBL has been doing the run over the past few days so looking pretty clear for me.

(side tab) is EBG still in maintenance ?

My Bolding

Isn't it amazing that not so long ago we would have actively sought these aircraft as the offering was way way ahead of the offering on other A330 aircraft especially the ex JQ birds. Now they are the devil itself. Oh how things change :D :D :D

I asked Qantas Customer Care if / when the remaining two aircraft would be refitted and they replied:

"Thank you for your email regarding the refurbishment of our A330-200 aircraft.

At this stage we hope for completion of this program by the end of December this year."

Who else thinks that us on AFF have more information than Qantas Customer Care?

Qantas customer care have been quoting the same words for months. I remember getting the same response from them on face book back in March - April this year.

You seem to be placing an awful lot of faith in an Instagram post by a junior engineer, who would not be privy to the bigger picture. Whereas brettmcg's leaked memo is at least an official QF comms piece to its staff. I'd put a lot more faith in that than some random person's Instagram!

However, it remains to be seen what happens. HNL really needs to be served by the refurbed A333s, not the A332s, most especially because of the J toilet issue, and apparently also a galley space issue. And of course the problem of 8 fewer J seats on the new 332s. But QF knew about the latter - which may actually be the major problem - when it announced the refurbs. So either incredibly poor planning - or something has changed since the original plan was announced.

Poor planning at Qantas? Surely not...what an outrageous allegation! ;)

The only way current QF A333 can fly to HNL with a full payload is to refuel somewhere in the Pacific.
The A333 has much less range than the A332 because the standard off the shelf config ex-manufacturer (not QF spec) comes without centre tank- it only has fuel tanks in the wings. Just because it's a bigger plane with a bigger model number dos not mean it can fly further.

It is possible to retrofit the aircraft with a centre fuel tank but the 787 are in the pipeline.

According to QF range with full payload on the A333 is 3800mi. A332 is 5300mi with full payload.

Range can of course increase if payload (freight) is reduced.

SYD-HNL is 5066mi (GC)
SYD-SIN is 3908mi
SYD-HKG is 4581mi

I believe some of the CX A333 have centre fuel tank larger vert stabiliser and higher MTOW.
