ALL QF's 330's to get lay flat Business seating - Including Domestic

And just got the email that both my HNL flights have changed to A330-300. I am quite happy about this!

Same here for my flights next year. And have also just checked Manage My Booking on the QF site, and the seat maps have also been changed to A333.

Not much choice, really - the two unrefurbed 332s are going to PEK (and that route will require two aircraft) and the refurbed 332s have the J toilet shortage problem and the issue with galley storage for meal services, which pretty much rules them out for longest couple of 330 sectors.

But it does mean that the 333s to HNL will have to be load restricted to make the distance - perhaps QF doesn't carry a lot of cargo to/from HNL, so it's not a big issue?

Our HNL flights have also changed. As have my mums, but she can no longer select seats (just aisle or window)....

Yes both A332 and A333 are load restricted to make HNL and PEK. (Obviously more so the A333).
I suspect not only freight restricted but maybe even passenger restricted as well. Much like the A380 DFW-SYD.

The article in Ausbt highlights the freight capacity of the A332 that can be utilised on this route but Im not sure that can be used to its full potential for a nearly 9000km flight when the range with full payload is 8500 km according to QF. More range = more fuel less payload.

David, did that give you the opening to ask how long they expect the two unrefurbed a/c to continue in that state?

John: that was my very first follow-up question based on that info; QF says it's yet to decide if it's keeping those last two (hence why they've not gone under the knife) and had no timetable to offer for the "yea or nay" decision.

booking a flight to singapore for late february and to take advantage of the companion rates emailed today, I will have to change the flight time to get this special. will have to fly on QF5 & QF6. what are the chances that I get lumbered with the EBG or EBL to singapore....slim or very likely

As above they will both be dedicated to SYD-PEK with some domestics in between, so very slim I would say

does anyone know when does qantas start to release some of the BC seats blocked seats, is it only a few days before the flight

While searching up seat maps on ExpertFlyer on some random days, I noticed that QF5/6 showed up as EBG or EBL. Combined with the timing of the PEK flights, I'd say it is very likely that EBG and EBL will be kept on rotation between QF5/6 and QF107/108 unfortunately.

yes EBL & EBG does show up on seat maps I would be flying on a saturday and one of them will be used for HLN on the same day. On qantas source I haven't seen either planes doing a saturday flight from sydney

Actually does appear possible to fit QF5/6 into the QF107/108 pattern without changing the existing times, so quite possibly that could be the plan if the seat maps are suggesting that.

Doesn't leave much downtime for maintenance however - just a 3hr window.

QF107 SYD 1350 PEK 2240 (95-100 min turn)
QF108 PEK 0015/20 SYD 1455 (100 min turn)
QF5 SYD 1635 2200 SIN (115 min turn)
QF6 SIN 2355 SYD 1050 (180 min turn)

Spot checking EF showed most not all QF5/6 as EBG/EBL. Dont currently have a subscription.. Maybe someone could determine if there is a pattern (eg. 4/5 days a week)
